Littrell, Director, Division of Engineering, advised the Board that on January 13, 1997, <br />bids were received and opened for the above referred to project. After reviewing those bids, Mr. <br />Littrell rece.-nmends that the Board award the contract to Niles Concrete Cutting and Sawing, Inc., <br />2580 East Detroit Road, Niles, Michigan, in the amount of $91,280.50. Therefore, Mr. Caldwell <br />made.a motion that the recommendation be accepted and the bid be awarded as outlined above. Mrs. <br />Roemer seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE CHANGE ORDER - SANITARY SEWER EXTENSION - BLACKTHORN - <br />PROJECT NO. 96-29-1 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Bob Allen, Public Construction Manager, has submitted Change <br />Order No. 1, on behalf of LaFree Excavating, Inc., 1251 West 3rd Street, Osceola, Indiana, indicating <br />that the Contract amount be increased $1,395.00 for a new Contract sum including this Change Order <br />in the amount of $17,078.00. Upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mrs. Roemer and <br />carried, the Change Order was approved. <br />APPROVE CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 (FINAL) AND PROJECT COMPLETION AFFIDAVIT - <br />SAMPLE-EWING REDEVELOPMENT AREA - SITE CLEARANCE - PHASE II, PACKAGE <br />I - PROJECT NO. 96-15-1 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Bob Allen, Public Construction Manager has submitted Change <br />Order No. 1 (Final), on behalf of LaFree Excavating, 1251 West 3rd Street, Osceola, Indiana, <br />indicating that the contract amount be increased by $4,840.00 for a new contract sum including this <br />Change Order in the amount of $24,140.00. Ms. Bruneel stated that LaFree Excavating is seeking <br />to increase its contract for site clearance work in the Sample Ewing Redevelopment area by <br />$4, 840.00, which is a 25% increase in the cost of public works. The increase results from the <br />discovery of additional concrete after the Street Department removed asphalt at the intersection of <br />Ohio and Rush Streets. It is cheaper and more efficient to proceed with this work with a change <br />order to the contract as opposed to seeking additional bids. This change order can be approved as <br />
