REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 3. 1998 <br />APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATION - TO CHANGE PARKING RESTRICTIONS - HOLY <br />DAYS - TEMPLE BETH-EL <br />Mr. Caldwell stated that favorable .recommendations have been received by the Division of <br />Engineering, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted <br />by Mr. David Hachen, Temple Beth -El, 305 West Madison, South Bend, Indiana, to remove parking <br />restrictions on West Madison and North Lafayette in conjunction with Holy Day Services on <br />September 20, 21, 29 and 30, 1998. Upon a motion made by Mr. Powell, seconded by Mr. Caldwell <br />and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />TABLE RECOMMENDATION - TO ENCROACH ONTO PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY - <br />INSTALLATION OF PLANTER <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mr. Powell and carried, the recommendation was <br />tabled. <br />APPROVAL OF RELEASE OF CLAIM <br />Upon a motion made by, seconded by and carried, a Release of Claim for Kenneth Hays and Bobby <br />Lynn Hodgee was approved. It was noted that the above named individuals have made restitution <br />for an accident in which City property was damaged. <br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - FIRE STATION <br />NO. 10 - PROJECT NO. 97-18 <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Mr. Carl Littrell, City Engineer, requested permission to advertise <br />for the receipt of bids for the above referred to project. Mr. Littrell stated that this project will <br />construct a new facility for the South Bend Fire Department. The Controller's office is arranging <br />lease -purchase financing for this project. Sufficient funds for the first year's payments have been <br />appropriated from the Economic Development Income Tax Fund. Therefore, upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Powell, seconded by Mr. Caldwell and carried, the request was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO*ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - MESSAGING <br />SYSTEM - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Captain Gary Horvath, South Bend Police Department, requested <br />permission to advertise for the receipt of bids for the above referred to items. Captain Horvath stated <br />that funding for the purchase of this system is through an approved DOJ block grant. Therefore, <br />upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mr. Powell and carried, the request to advertise <br />for the receipt of bids was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO OBTAIN QUOTATIONS <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Jack Dillon, Director, Environmental Services, requested permission to <br />obtain quotations for the repair of a crankshaft to a 1958 diesel blower engine, which is crucial to the <br />operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Quotes are being requested from Dresser Rand <br />Company of Napperville, Illnois and Nickles Industrial of Ponca, Oklahoma. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Powell, seconded by Mr. Caldwell and carried, the request was approved. <br />APPROVE CLAIMS <br />Ms. M. Catherine Roemer, City Controller, submitted claims in the amount of $971,689.92 and <br />recommended approval. Additionally, Mr. Juan Manigault, Executive Director, WDS of Northern <br />Indiana, submitted two (2) lists containing claims in the amount of $101,346.12 and $386,754.74 and <br />recommended approval. Mr. Caldwell made a motion that the claims be approved and the reports <br />as submitted be filed. Mr. Powell seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE TITLE SHEETS <br />- TRAFFIC SIGNAL - 20TH STREET AND MISHAWAKA AVENUE <br />- FIRE STATION NO. 10 <br />Mr. Caldwell advised that the Title Sheets for the above referred to projects were being presented <br />at this time for execution. Upon a motion made by Mr. Caldwell, seconded by Mr. Powell and <br />carried, the above referred to Title Sheets were approved and signed. <br />L, <br />1 <br />1-1 <br />
