REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 21, 2000
<br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:36 a.m. on Monday, August
<br />21, 2000, by Board President Gary A. Gilot, with Board Member M. Catherine Roemer present.
<br />Board Member Donald E. Inks was not present. Also present was Board Attorney Frank Schaffer.
<br />AGENDA ITEMS ADDED
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Gilot, seconded by Ms. Roemer and carried, the following items were
<br />added to the agenda:
<br />- Request to Advertise for the Receipt of Bids - 2000 Concrete Repairs - Phase II - Project No. 100-

<br />- Title Sheet - Southernview Drive Improvements - Project No. 100-01
<br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
<br />Upon a motion made by Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the minutes of the regular
<br />meeting of the Board held on August 14, 2000, were approved.
<br />AWARD QUOTATION - CALVERT STREET SEWER - PROJECT NO. 100-68
<br />Mr. Carl P. Littrell, City Engineer, advised the Board that on August 14, 2000, quotations were
<br />received and opened for the above referred to project. After reviewing those quotations, Mr. Littrell
<br />recommends that the Board award the contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder,
<br />Youngs Excavating, Inc., Post Office Box 2766, South Bend, Indiana in the amount of $56,765,98.
<br />Therefore, Ms. Roemer made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and the quotation be
<br />awarded as outlined above. Mr. Gilot seconded the motion which carried.
<br />AWARD BID - WESTSIDE PARTNERSHIP CENTER - SIDEWALK. CURB AND APPROACH
<br />REPAIRS - MEADE STREET - PROJECT NO. 100-65-
<br />Mr. Carl P. Littrell, City Engineer, advised the Board that on August 14, 2000, bids were received
<br />and opened for the above referred to project. After reviewing those bids, Mr. Littrell recommends
<br />that the Board award the contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, Kankakee Valley
<br />Construction Company, Inc., 2055 North 150 East, LaPorte, Indiana in the amount of $48,691.14,
<br />which is the base bid and Alternate A. Therefore, Ms. Roemer made a motion that the
<br />recommendation be accepted and the bid be awarded as outlined above. Mr. Gilot seconded the
<br />motion which carried.
<br />AWARD BID - SOUTH MICHIGAN STREET - SIDEWALK, CURB, APPROACH AND RAMP
<br />REPAIRS - PROJECT NO. 100-64
<br />Mr. Carl P. Littrell, City Engineer, advised the Board that on August 14, 2000, bids were received
<br />and opened for the above referred to project. After reviewing those bids, Mr. Littrell recommends
<br />that the Board award the contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, Walsh & Kelly,
<br />Inc., 24358 State Road 23, South Bend, Indiana in the amount of $49,314.25. Therefore, Ms.
<br />Roemer made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and the bid be awarded as outlined
<br />above. Mr. Gilot seconded the motion which carried.
<br />AWARD BID - SOUTH MICHIGAN STREET - SIDEWALK, CURB, APPROACH AND RAMP
<br />REPAIRS - PROJECT NO. 100-62
<br />Mr. Carl P. Littrell, City Engineer, advised the Board that on August 14, 2000, bids were received
<br />and opened for the above referred to project. After reviewing those bids, Mr. Littrell recommends
<br />that the Board award the contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, Rieth Riley
<br />Construction Company, Inc., Post Office Box 1775, South Bend, Indiana in the amount of
<br />$298,167.75, which is the base bid and Alternates A and B. Therefore, Ms. Roemer made a motion
<br />that the recommendation be accepted and the bid be awarded as outlined above. Mr. Gilot seconded
<br />the motion which carried.
<br />AWARD BID - LINCOLNWAY WEST PHASE II - ELMER STREET TO LAFAYETTE STREET
<br />-PROJECT NO. 100-57
<br />Mr. Carl P. Littrell, City Engineer, advised the Board that on August 14, 2000, bids were received
<br />and opened for the above referred to project. After reviewing those bids, Mr. Littrell recommends
<br />that the Board award the contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, Rieth Riley
