E REGULAR MEETING JULY 9, 2001 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:35 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2001, by Board President Gary A. Gilot, with Mr. Carl P. Littrell and Mr. Donald E. Inks present. Also present was Attorney Thomas Bodnar. AGENDA ITEMS ADDED Upon a motion made by Mr. Littrell, seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, the following items were added to the agenda: - Contractor Bond - Claims, City of South Bend - Request to Advertise for the Receipt of Bids - South Bend Dam Repairs - Request to Advertise for the Receipt of Bids - South Michigan Street Improvements APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Upon a motion made by Mr. Inks, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the minutes of the regular meeting of the Board held on June 25, 2001, were approved. TABLE CONTRACT - ASSIGNMENT OF PROPERTY TO YWCA/MEMORIAL HOSPITAL Upon a motion made by Mr. Gilot, seconded by Mr. Littrell and carried, the above referred to Contract was tabled. APPROVAL OF CONTRACT AMENDMENT - ADDITIONAL FIELD ENGINEERING SERVICES - HEADWORKS FACILITY - WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT - GREELEY AND HANSEN Mr. Gilot stated that the Board is in receipt of an Amendment to an Agreement between the City of South Bend and Greeley and Hansen,100 South Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois, for additional field engineering services for the headworks facility at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Mr. Gilot noted that the Amendment is in the amount of $17,607.00. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Gilot, seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, the Amendment was approved and executed. REQUEST TABLED - TO ENCROACH ONTO PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY - INSTALLATION OF SIGN - 420 LINCOLNWAY WEST Mr. Gilot stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Building Department, Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted by Mr. Ben Endres, Prosecuting Attomey's Office, South Bend, Indiana, to replace an existing sign at 420 Lincolnway West, South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Littrell stated that the Municipal Code allows awnings, canopies and projecting signs to encroach across the sidewalk up to halfway to the curb. The encroachment requested is primarily for advertising and is on a freestanding foundation and support. The sign is also higher than the parapet of the associated building. The Board recommended that the Building Department, Engineering and Community & Economic Development work with the Prosecutor's Office to install a different method of signage. Upon a motion made by Mr. Inks, seconded by Mr. Littrell and carried, the recommendation was tabled. Mr. Inks seconded the motion which carried.
