E <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 9, 2001 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:35 a.m. on Monday, July 9, <br />2001, by Board President Gary A. Gilot, with Mr. Carl P. Littrell and Mr. Donald E. Inks present. <br />Also present was Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />AGENDA ITEMS ADDED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Littrell, seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, the following items were <br />added to the agenda: <br />- Contractor Bond <br />- Claims, City of South Bend <br />- Request to Advertise for the Receipt of Bids - South Bend Dam Repairs <br />- Request to Advertise for the Receipt of Bids - South Michigan Street Improvements <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Inks, seconded by Mr. Gilot and carried, the minutes of the regular <br />meeting of the Board held on June 25, 2001, were approved. <br />TABLE CONTRACT - ASSIGNMENT OF PROPERTY TO YWCA/MEMORIAL HOSPITAL <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Gilot, seconded by Mr. Littrell and carried, the above referred to <br />Contract was tabled. <br />APPROVAL OF CONTRACT AMENDMENT - ADDITIONAL FIELD ENGINEERING <br />SERVICES - HEADWORKS FACILITY - WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT - GREELEY <br />AND HANSEN <br />Mr. Gilot stated that the Board is in receipt of an Amendment to an Agreement between the City of <br />South Bend and Greeley and Hansen,100 South Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois, for additional field <br />engineering services for the headworks facility at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Mr. Gilot noted <br />that the Amendment is in the amount of $17,607.00. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Gilot, <br />seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, the Amendment was approved and executed. <br />REQUEST TABLED - TO ENCROACH ONTO PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY - INSTALLATION <br />OF SIGN - 420 LINCOLNWAY WEST <br />Mr. Gilot stated that favorable recommendations have been received by the Building Department, <br />Police Department and the City Attorney's office, in reference to a request as submitted by Mr. Ben <br />Endres, Prosecuting Attomey's Office, South Bend, Indiana, to replace an existing sign at 420 <br />Lincolnway West, South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Littrell stated that the Municipal Code allows awnings, <br />canopies and projecting signs to encroach across the sidewalk up to halfway to the curb. The <br />encroachment requested is primarily for advertising and is on a freestanding foundation and support. <br />The sign is also higher than the parapet of the associated building. The Board recommended that <br />the Building Department, Engineering and Community & Economic Development work with the <br />Prosecutor's Office to install a different method of signage. Mr. Inks <br />seconded the motion which carried. <br />
