No.100-2000 <br />Ms. Roemer made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and that the Bonds be approved <br />and/or released as outlined above. Mr. Inks seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVAL OF VACATIONS - COLUMBIA STREET AND WESTERN AVENUE <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Mr. Carl Littrell, City Engineer, stated that the Common Council <br />has agreed to vacate portions of Columbia Street and Western Avenue in connection with the <br />Western Avenue/Wayne Street improvements project. Their action was conditioned upon becoming <br />effective upon the Board of Public Works' notice to the Council that Crowe Chizek and Company <br />have awarded contracts for site work in the vacated street area. Therefore, upon a motion made by <br />Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, the vacations were approved. <br />APPROVE CLAIMS <br />Mr. Tom Skarbek, Controller's Office, City of South Bend, submitted claims for Meridian Title <br />Corporation and recommended approval. Mr. Inks made a motion that the claims be approved and <br />the reports as submitted be filed. Ms. Roemer seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO AUTHORIZE CITY OF SOUTH BEND TO JOIN THE SOUTH <br />BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION ON CLAIM- ALLIED PRODUCTS CORPORATION <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Ms. Ann Kolata, Community & Economic Development, stated that <br />the South Bend Redevelopment Commission has had discussions with Allied Products Corporation <br />concerning the Commission's acquisition of the former stamping plant and Oliver Plow Works <br />property which are owned by Allied Products. The acquisition is consistent with the strategy for the <br />Studebaker/Oliver Plow areas that has previously been adopted by the Commission and Common <br />Council. In October of 2000, Allied Products filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy and May 17, 2001 is <br />the last date for filing claims with the bankruptcy court. The Commission has authorized the City <br />Attorney to file a claim with the bankruptcy court related to environmental remediation of the <br />property. Ms. Kolata requests permission to authorize the City of South Bend to join the <br />Commission on the claim. Upon a motion made by Ms. Roemer, seconded by Mr. Inks and carried, <br />the request was approved. <br />REQUEST TO ACQUIRE CITY OWNED PROPERTY - HABITAT FOR HUMANITY <br />Mr. Larry Magliozzi, Community & Economic Development, asked the Board to review the request <br />for Habitat for Humanity to acquire City -owned property on Oak Grove, for the construction of <br />additional homes. The property is adjacent to the Fire Station on Olive Street. Favorable <br />recommendations were received from the Department of Code Enforcement, Economic <br />Development, Park Department and the City Attorney's Office. Engineering has suggested that the <br />current rights -of -way be vacated and the land be replatted to make efficient use of the land and more <br />desirable home sites.
