~` :i ~. <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />APRIL 4, 2007 <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE PROMOTION - RON SIMON <br />President Rodriguez advised that Chief Taylor has submitted to the Board a recommendation that <br />Lieutenant Paramedic Ron Simon be promoted to the rank of Captain in Fire Suppression, effective <br />Apri14, 2007. He has been with the Fire Department since January 4, 1989 and is a Paramedic and a <br />member of the Swiftwater Rescue Team. Upon a motion made by Mr. Alford, seconded by Mr. <br />Cottrell and carried, the promotion was accepted and approved. <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE PROMOTION -CHAD AMMERMAN <br />President Rodriguez advised that Chief Taylor has submitted to the Board a recommendation that <br />Engineer Chad Ammerman be promoted to the rank of Captain in Fire Suppression, effective April <br />4, 2007. He has been with the Fire Department since March 20, 1997, and is a Paramedic and a <br />member of the Tactical Rescue Team. Upon a motion made by Mr. Alford, seconded by Mr. Cottrell <br />and carried, the promotion was accepted and approved. <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE PROMOTION -DAVE SCHACKOW <br />President Rodriguez advised that Chief Taylor has submitted to the Board a recommendation that <br />Lieutenant Paramedic Dave Schackow be promoted to the rank of Captain in Fire Suppression, <br />effective April 4, 2007. He has been with the Fire Department since March 29, 1995, and is a <br />Paramedic and a member of the Tac Two Team. Upon a motion made by Mr. Alford, seconded by <br />Mr. Cottrell and carried, the promotion was accepted and approved. <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE PROMOTION -JEFF STONEBURNER <br />President Rodriguez advised that Chief Taylor has submitted to the Board a recommendation that <br />Lieutenant Jeff Stoneburner be promoted to the rank of Captain/Paramedic in Emergency Medical <br />Service, effective Apri14, 2007. He has been with the Fire Department since October 4,1995 and is <br />a Paramedic. Upon a motion made by Mr. Alford, seconded by Mr. Cottrell and carved, the <br />promotion was .accepted and approved. <br />Mayor Stephen Luecke stated that this was the first test of the new promotion system and thanked <br />Chief Taylor for implementing the new process for selecting his candidates for promotion. Mayor <br />Luecke congratulated the four newly appointed Captains. Chief Taylor thanked the labor committee <br />for working with the Fire Department on the promotion process. Chief Taylor congratulated the <br />newly appointed Captains and presented them with their badges. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />APPROVAL OF SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSIONS <br />- Richard Gray <br />- Scott Nance <br />Police Chief Thomas Fautz recommended that a Special Police Commission for Parking Properties <br />be issued on April 4, 2007, until revoked, for the above referred to individuals. These Commissions <br />are issued for the on-street patrol parking enforcement personnel and they do not include the carrying <br />of a weapon or the powers of arrest. The aforementioned individuals have met the Commission <br />requirements of the South Bend Police Department. Upon a motion made by Ms. Dempsey, seconded <br />by Mr. BonDurant and carried, the Special Police Commissions were approved. <br />APPROVE RECOMMENDATION FOR EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -JANUARY 2007 - <br />CORPORAL PHILLIP HERMAN <br />Chief Fautz stated that Corporal Phillip Herman was selected as Employee of the Month for January, <br />2007. The award is to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department <br />who have demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law <br />enforcement position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. <br />Chief Fautz noted this officer was instrumental in apprehending two dangerous felons and solving a <br />two-man crime spree. There being no further discussion, a motion to approve the recommendation <br />was made by Ms. Dempsey, seconded by Mr. BonDurant and carried. <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
