BonDurant, Member <br />ADOPT RESOLUTION NO 63-2006 -COMMENDATION TO THE CREW OF QUINT 7, <br />"A" SHIFT SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Chief Taylor read the following Resolution. Upon a motion made by Mr. BonDurant, seconded <br />by Ms. Dempsey and carried, the following Resolution was adopted by the Board of Public <br />Safety: <br />RESOLUTION N0.63-2006 <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Public Safety wishes to issue Commendations to individuals <br />who perform meritorious service on behalf of the citizens of this Community, and; <br />WHEREAS, such service shall be recognized by the Board of Public Safety and <br />appropriate Commendation shall be presented to the individual performing said meritorious <br />service. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Commendation be given to: <br />ENGINEER FRED GUNTHER <br />ENGINEER PARAMEDIC DAVID LEE <br />ENGINEER SCOTT SEARFOSS <br />On October 12, 2006 at approximately 2:33 p.m., the crew of Quint 7, while returning to the <br />station from a house fire, responded to a call for a commercial apartment fire at 1667 Riverside, <br />South Bend, Indiana. The crew on Quint 7 consisted of Engineer Fred Gunther, Engineer <br />Paramedic David Lee and Engineer Scott Searfoss. In less than three minutes they reached the <br />scene of a fire. Upon arriving at the scene they were met by Shawn Gray who directed them to <br />apartment 1667 and advised them that a woman was inside the apartment. Amidst heavy smoke <br />and flames Engineer Fred Gunther, Engineer Paramedic David Lee and Engineer Scott Searfoss <br />courageously entered the burning apartment and found a severely burned woman in the bedroom. <br />They removed her from the burning apartment and began airway management. When an <br />ambulance arrived, Engineer Paramedic David Lee started an IV to restore fluids to the burn <br />victim, while the other firefighters maintained her airway and helped to move the victim into the <br />ambulance. <br />Although the woman later died as a result of her burns, the actions of Engineer Fred Gunther, <br />Engineer Paramedic David Lee and Engineer Scott Searfoss were courageous, prompt, <br />appropriate and professional. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Engineer Fred Gunther, Engineer Paramedic David <br />Lee and Engineer Scott Searfoss be commended and recognized by the City of South Bend for <br />their courage and professionalism. <br />Dated this 8`h day of November 2006. <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />s/Jesusa Rodriguez, President <br />s/Donald Alford, Member <br />s/Juanita Dempsey, Member <br />s/Patrick Cottrell, Member <br />s/Bruce J.
