~`ti <br />PUBLIC AGENDA SESSION AUGUST 16.2006 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, <br />August 16, 2006 with President Jesusa Rodriguez. Board Members Juanita Dempsey, Donald <br />Alford, Patrick D. Cottrell and Bruce J. BonDurant were present. Police Chief Thomas Fautz <br />and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar were not present. Also present were Uniform Division <br />Chief Darryl Boykins, Fire Chief Luther Taylor and Assistant City Attorney Cheryl Greene. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13~' Floor County City <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />_~ Board members discussed the following item(s) from that list: <br />- Minutes <br />Mr. Cottrell mentioned there were three (3) errors in the minutes as follows: <br />1) Page 76, under the section "Accept and Approve Promotion -Corporal Ronald <br />Nowicki" - "Chief Luther Taylor" should be changed to "Chief Thomas Fautz". <br />2) Page 77, under the Section "Accept Request for Letter to Pension Board -Corporal <br />Kelly Lawall", third sentence "The Board of Public Safety will schedule a Special <br />Meeting to discuss the matter", should be changed to "The Pension Board will schedule a <br />Special Meeting to discuss the matter." <br />3) Page 79, under the section "Special Meeting" -Third line, the word "Fire" should be <br />deleted from the sentence. <br />- Police Selection Panel <br />Ms. Greene stated the Police Selection Panel reports a recommendation to the Board of <br />Public Safety for a determination of approval or disapproval. <br />- Swearing in of Police Officers <br />The Clerk of the Board confirmed that City Clerk, Mr. John Voorde, would be present to <br />administer the Oath of Oflice. <br />- Employee of the Month -Police Department, <br />Chief Boykins stated this police officer was selected as he had located a vehicle in <br />1 connection to a robbery and found the suspect. The officer played a key factor in making <br />this arrest. <br />- Monthly Statistical Analysis -July 2006 -Police Department <br />There were no comments. <br />- Quarterly Report -April through June 2006 -Police Department <br />There were no comments. <br />- Contract -Emergency Medical Services -University of Notre Dame -Fire Department <br />Fire Chief Luther Taylor explained this contract is for 2006 EMS for the Notre Dame <br />football season. Notre Dame covers the cost of all expenses, including Fire Department <br />equipment used and Fire Fighters salary for twelve (12) Notre Dame football games. The <br />reimbursement to the Fire Department is $2,425.20 per game. Three (3) Advanced Life <br />Support Units staffed with six (6) certified paramedics; one (1) Advanced Lift Support <br />Unit staffed with two (Z) certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians; one (1) <br />paramedic certified by St. Joseph County Advanced Life Support Committee; one (1) <br />paramedic supervisor; and one (1) basic emergency medical technician will be on-site at <br />each football game. Chief Taylor noted an Agreement covering Special Events at the <br />University of Notre Dame is forthcoming. It was noted Mr. Cottrell will abstain from <br />voting on this agenda item, as he is a University of Notre Dame employee. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, President Rodriguez declared the <br />- meeting adjourned at 8:15 a.m. <br />_~ BOARD OF PUBS SAFETY <br />Jesu <br />Donald L. <br />
