SOUTH BEND BOARD OF PARK CONMUSSIONERS <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> AUGUST 15, 2011 <br /> The Board of Park Commissioners of the Park District of the City of South Bend, Indiana met on <br /> Monday August 15, 2011 at the O'Brien Administration&Recreation Center, 321 E. Walter St., <br /> South Bend, Indiana for its regular meeting. Notice of the date,time and place of the meeting were <br /> duly given as required by law. <br /> Park Board members present were as follows: <br /> Mr. Robert Henry,President <br /> Mr. Robert Goodrich,Vice President <br /> Dr. Thomas Kelly <br /> Park Board members absent were as follows: <br /> Mr. Garrett Mullins <br /> Staff members present: Bill Carleton,Fiscal Officer;Betsy Harriman,Administrative Director; <br /> Susan O'Connor,Recreation Director; Randy Nowacki,Director of Golf Operations; Terry <br /> DeRosa,Zoo Director;Richard Payton,Development Director; Mike Dyszkiewicz,Maintenance <br /> Superintendent; Thomas Bodnar,Park Board Attorney <br /> I. The meeting was called to order by Board President Robert Henry at 4:04 p.m. <br /> II. The first order of business was the interviewing of interested citizens. <br /> 1. Mr. Leonard Griimnel, 1919 S. Carlisle St., South Bend, IN,read a statement in rebuttal <br /> to the Park Board's letter to the South Bend Tribune regarding the Board's concern with the <br /> recently enacted Senate Bill 292 that overrides restrictions on the carrying of firearms in <br /> public areas. <br /> 2. Ms. Lyn Kachmarik of the South Bend Silver Hawks reported that the new stadium <br /> upgrades were dedicated. A softball game between the South Bend Fire and Police <br /> Departments was held. They are very pleased with the improvements. She feels the stadium <br /> is becoming a year around facility. Attendance is behind last year due to the weather in the <br /> early spring. She hopes to make up attendance because they have more games in August <br /> this year. <br /> She thanked the Board for the use of park facilities during the Urban Adventure event. <br /> 3. Ms. Rachel the Special Events Coordinator for the Zoological Society reported that the <br /> recent Zoo Do event was very successful with over 100 people in attendance. Zoo Brew will <br /> be held September 10 from 7-10 pm. Half the tickets are sold at this point. <br /> Train and butterfly attendance are up despite the hot weather. <br /> 3. Mr. Meyer Blatt, 813 Berlin St.,Mishawaka, IN, spoke in opposition to the Board's <br /> position on SB 292. <br /> III. The next order of business was unfinished business. <br /> - - I - - <br />
