RESOLUTION NO. 5186-26
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, APPROVING THE ISSUANCE OF
SCRAP METAL/JUNK DEALERS/RECYCLING OPERATIONS LICENSES
FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2026 PURSUANT TO SECTION 4-51 OF THE
SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, Section 4-51 of the South Bend Municipal Code sets forth the regulations
addressing the licensing of scrap metal dealers,junk dealers, and recycling operations; and
WHEREAS, on September 8, 2026, the Business License Administrator provided written
notice to the City Clerk that the following businesses:
South Bend Metal Recyclers: 700 W. Chippewa Ave.
Alternative Two: 700 W. Chippewa Ave.
Republic Services: 2500 Green Tech Dr.
Big Bulldog Auto Parts: 3700 S. Gertrude St.
LKQ Pick Your Part Midwest: 1602 S. Lafayette Blvd.
have been approved for Scrap Metal Dealer, Junk Dealer, and/or Recycling Operations Licenses
for the year 2026; and
WHEREAS, the license applications for all above-referenced businesses received
favorable recommendations from Neighborhood Resources, Zoning Department, Police
Department, and the Fire Prevention Bureau.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South
Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. As for new license applicants, the license applications for the following businesses:
South Bend Metal Recyclers: 700 W. Chippewa Ave.
Are approved in conformity with South Bend Municipal Code Section 4-51 and based upon the
satisfactory review and inspection of the properties by Neighborhood Resources, Zoning
Department, Police Department, and the Fire Prevention Bureau as evidenced by the Business
License Administrator's communication to the City Clerk dated September 8, 2026.
SECTION II. As for applicants who currently hold interim licenses, and require a contingency,
the license applications for the following businesses:
Alternative Two: 700 W. Chippewa Ave.
Republic Services: 2500 Green Tech Dr.
Are approved for contingent licenses in conformity with South Bend Municipal Code Section 4-
51 and based upon the satisfactory review and inspection of the properties by Neighborhood
Resources, Zoning Department, Police Department, and the Fire Prevention Bureau as evidenced
by the Business License Administrator's communication to the City Clerk dated September 8,
2026.
Alternative Two contingency: do not accept tires from the public.
Republic Services contingency: continue making progress on replacing the sprinkler system which
is expected to be completed in a matter of weeks.
SECTION III. As for applicants who currently hold interim licenses, and do not require a
contingency, the license applications for the following businesses:
Big Bulldog Auto Parts: 3700 S. Gertrude St.
LKQ Pick Your Part Midwest: 1602 S. Lafayette Blvd.
Are approved for licenses in conformity with South Bend Municipal Code Section 4-51 and based
upon the satisfactory review and inspection of the properties by Neighborhood Resources,Zoning
Department, Police Department, and the Fire Prevention Bureau as evidenced by the Business
License Administrator's communication to the City Clerk dated September 8, 2026.
SECTION IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the
Common Council and approved by the Mayor.
