Schneider <br />Property Owner: Indiana Landmarks <br />Landmark or District Designation: Chapin Park LHD, <br />Ordinance #9575-05 <br />Rating: Outstanding <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/SITE: This is a 2 story rectangular plan Craftsman bungalow house. Walls <br />are of stretcher bond dark brick and shingle siding. The shallowly sloped roof has wide eaves and brackets support- <br />ing the soffit with exposed rafter tails. The windows are 1/1 double hung. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The applicant has requested approval to: <br />1) Repair of the existing water table, siding, and masonry in kind. The 10’ water table (currently exposed concrete <br />block) to be coated with a new stucco, and existing stucco on rear second story wing also to be repaired in kind. <br />Masonry to be restored with bricks original to the home. The approximate third of siding that is missing from the <br />rear of the house to be replaced with in-kind cedar shingles painted to match. <br />2) Construct a rear porch approximately 6’ deep by 12’ long (see attached designs), and shift the exiting rear door <br />by three feet to acommodate a more spatious kitchen layout. Structure to be wood with concrete piers faced with <br />masonry brick, hollow core fiberglass columns, and Trex decking. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />Porches: Pages 17-18 <br />SITE VISIT REPORT: N/A <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: The proposed repairs to the water table, siding, and masonry are sound ave- <br />nues of repair using appropriate materials. The design and footprint of the proposed porch is in keeping with the <br />massing and scale of a rear porch, and Staff feels that the proposed designs are sympathetic to the existing home <br />and neighborhood. Staff is favorable to either design (Proposal Version 1 or Proposal Version 2).
