Klosinski, Assistant City Engineer <br />Agenda Request Form —Title Sheet and Request to Advertis vti,„, <br />Project No. 119-069 <br />Wastewater Treatment Plant Secondary and Disinfection Improvements <br />DATE: October 15, 2019 <br />io. wwwwwwwwwwu�!��u�w�r�u�w�wwu�wuwmuuouumummmmmmmwrwuwwaivanwu�www�rum�m0000ioiw�oumowwwmuu�wr�wwwwa iou... � 0000iw�uuumwuwuuu�wuv�rv�wmiwio <br />The Division of Engineering and Division of Utilities are requesting the Board of Public Works' <br />approval of the Title Sheet and Request to Advertise for Project No. 119-069 WWTP Secondary <br />Treatment and Disinfection Improvements. <br />Background <br />The City of South Bend Long Term Control Plan and Consent Decree (May 2012) requires the <br />Wastewater Treatment Plant provide Secondary Treatment for 100 MGD peak flow rates. As part of <br />this effort to upgrade the facility, Secondary Clarifiers, Aeration Basins, and Disinfection facilities <br />require upgrades to improve the hydraulics and return activated sludge return rates to optimize <br />treatment capacity. <br />The engineering scope for the WWTP Secondary and Disinfection Improvement project will address <br />the following major improvements: <br />• Final Clarifiers 1-5: Replace sludge mechanism, drive motors, access walkways, isolated <br />structural improvements, rehabilitate weirs, and replace handrails. <br />• Aeration Basins 1-4: Replace Pass 1-2 Influent Gates and the drain gates at Aeration Tank <br />4. <br />• Aeration Basins 1-4: Extend the length of the Aeration Basin effluent weirs. <br />• Disinfection Building and Chlorine Contact Tanks: Increase capacity of chlorine and sulfur <br />dioxide gas systems by adding evaporators, scrubbing equipment, and improvements to <br />distribution piping. <br />Advertisement Dates: November 8, 2019 and November 15, 2019 <br />The funding source for the project is Utilities, Sewage Works Capital, Sewer Rehabilitation Account <br />(642-0630-415-42-05) and Treatment and Disposal Equipment Account (642-0630-415-43-66).
