REGULAR MEETING APRIL 13, 2009 th Attest: Adopted this 13 day of April, 2009 s/John Voorde, City Clerk s/Stephen J. Luecke, Mayor of South Bend Councilmember Henry Davis, Jr., 5117 Idlewood Drive, South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for this Resolution by first offering his comments and then reading the Resolution in its entirety and presenting it to the members of the Washington High School Girls Basketball Team. A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. There was no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this Resolution. Coach Maurice Scott thanked the Council for this honor. He stated that this team has shown so much spirit and worked so hard to achieve their goals. He noted that all the seniors will be furthering their basketball and academic careers at the collegiate level. He stated that he is so proud of this team. Additionally, Councilmember’s Dieter, Henry Davis, Puzzello, White, Kirsits, Oliver Davis; Rouse Varner and LaFountain commend the Washington High School Girls Basketball Team on their accomplishments and wished them good luck in the future. Councilmember Rouse made a motion to adopt this Resolution by acclamation. Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried. RESOLUTION NO. 3963-09 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY HONORING WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SKYLAR DIGGINS FOR EARNING THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARD IN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL, THE NAISMITH TROPHY AND FOR EARNING MANY OTHER HONORS Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is especially , proud to recognize that Washington High School Senior, Skylar Diggins a member of the 2008-2009 Washington High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team, has been chosen as the Naismith National High School Player of the Year; and Whereas, the Naismith Trophy was presented to Skylar at a banquet held in rd Atlanta, Georgia on March 23; with this honor being given annually to the top girl and boy high school players and coaches in the country and is the most prestigious national award in high school basketball; and Whereas, the Common Council further recognizes that Skylar Diggins, an exceptional student-athlete both on and off the basketball court; is rated as the consensus #1 guard in the country; was selected to be a member of the 2009 McDonald’s All th American Girls Team and scored a game-high 18 points for the East in the 8 annual McDonald’s All-American Game held in Coral Gables, Florida last week; is the 2009 Indianapolis Star “Indiana Miss Basketball”; is the 2009 Gatorade National Player of the rd Year; was selected to be a member of the first-team AP All-State for the 3 year in a row – being voting in by the most votes among the girls; and Whereas, the Common Council would especially like to publicly recognize that as a member of the 26-1 Washington High School Lady Panthers Basketball Team, Skylar Diggins, a 5-10 senior, averaged a state-best 29 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 5.4 3
