REGULAR MEETING APRIL 13, 2009 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />th <br />Attest: Adopted this 13 day of April, 2009 <br /> <br />s/John Voorde, City Clerk s/Stephen J. Luecke, Mayor of South Bend <br /> <br />Councilmember Henry Davis, Jr., 5117 Idlewood Drive, South Bend, Indiana, made the <br />presentation for this Resolution by first offering his comments and then reading the <br />Resolution in its entirety and presenting it to the members of the Washington High <br />School Girls Basketball Team. <br /> <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br /> <br />There was no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this Resolution. <br /> <br />Coach Maurice Scott thanked the Council for this honor. He stated that this team has <br />shown so much spirit and worked so hard to achieve their goals. He noted that all the <br />seniors will be furthering their basketball and academic careers at the collegiate level. He <br />stated that he is so proud of this team. <br /> <br />Additionally, Councilmember’s Dieter, Henry Davis, Puzzello, White, Kirsits, Oliver <br />Davis; Rouse Varner and LaFountain commend the Washington High School Girls <br />Basketball Team on their accomplishments and wished them good luck in the future. <br /> <br />Councilmember Rouse made a motion to adopt this Resolution by acclamation. <br />Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried. <br /> <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3963-09 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY <br />HONORING WASHINGTON HIGH <br />SCHOOL SENIOR SKYLAR DIGGINS <br />FOR EARNING THE MOST <br />PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARD IN <br />HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL, THE <br />NAISMITH TROPHY AND FOR <br />EARNING MANY OTHER HONORS <br /> <br />Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is especially <br />, <br />proud to recognize that Washington High School Senior, Skylar Diggins a member of <br />the 2008-2009 Washington High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team, has been chosen <br />as the Naismith National High School Player of the Year; and <br /> <br />Whereas, the Naismith Trophy was presented to Skylar at a banquet held in <br />rd <br />Atlanta, Georgia on March 23; with this honor being given annually to the top girl and <br />boy high school players and coaches in the country and is the most prestigious national <br />award in high school basketball; and <br /> <br />Whereas, the Common Council further recognizes that Skylar Diggins, an <br />exceptional student-athlete both on and off the basketball court; is rated as the consensus <br />#1 guard in the country; was selected to be a member of the 2009 McDonald’s All <br />th <br />American Girls Team and scored a game-high 18 points for the East in the 8 annual <br />McDonald’s All-American Game held in Coral Gables, Florida last week; is the 2009 <br />Indianapolis Star “Indiana Miss Basketball”; is the 2009 Gatorade National Player of the <br />rd <br />Year; was selected to be a member of the first-team AP All-State for the 3 year in a row <br />– being voting in by the most votes among the girls; and <br /> <br />Whereas, the Common Council would especially like to publicly recognize that as <br />a member of the 26-1 Washington High School Lady Panthers Basketball Team, Skylar <br />Diggins, a 5-10 senior, averaged a state-best 29 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 5.4 <br /> 3 <br /> <br />
