HENRY DAVIS JR.
2"dDistrict South Bend City Council
For Immediate Release
August 20, 2015
Contact: Stacy Gates 574- 904 -9161
Westside Residents are Demanding Better Response from City Leadership
SOUTH BEND— Westside residents are peeved with the lack of transparency and leadership
from council representatives and Mayor's office. Councilman Henry Davis, Jr., of the 2nd
District is working with residents who have been adversely impacted by the 'Smart Street'
initiative planned by the Mayor Pete administration. "It has been extremely difficult for the
residents on the Western and Lincoln Way corridor to have their voices and concerns addressed.
I continue to hear how residents are unhappy with crumbling infrastructure in neighborhoods and
rising property taxes and subpar simple city services. We are truly at a crossroad," says Davis.
Over the. past 3 years there have been multiple meetings about the corridor projects which was
started by members of the LaSalle Park Neighborhood Association. In 2012 the South Bend
Common Council passed a resolution to dedicate funding for planning. As a result of years of
planning the residents' concerns have not been addressed and residents are demanding a better
plan and answers.
"Many of the residents feel like they are not being heard and that they are victims of
gentrification. It is time for council members and the Mayor to listen and respond appropriately
to the residents' concerns and wishes," stated Councilman Davis.
There is a meeting scheduled today August 20, 2015 at the Charles Black Recreational Center for
6pm. Members of the public are invited and Council members have been sent invitations. The
Charles Black Center is located at 3419 West Washington Street.
227 W.
