Briefly describe why you are interested in serving on the requested Standing Committee of the South Bend Common Council: I am passionate about helping to address the problems of ineoual y in our community. Whether these problems have roots within cycles of racism. classism or are based on ideas ahn.rt sev uoi�r, or drawn and efforts to environ- ment of communication and finding areas of common ground. I believe we have the opportunity to set South Bend apart by addressing inee ualities and crea ivel collaborating to end descriminatin . 2. Provide a brief summary of the issues and/or topics you believe should be addressed by this Standing Committee/ Board this Calendar year. I feel that as marriage ecivality and the RFRA legislation have altered the current legal situation_ facing LGBT Individuals we need to insure that supports are in place for our citizens to be treated encourage thoughtful communication between our lower income nelghbors and minority neighbors and local law enforcement and government to avoid escalating tensions. 3. Provide a brief summary of your participation in any professional, public service, not- for - profit, or other organizations: i am currently an intern for Indiana Legal Services helping to o interview low income individuals that are seeking legal representation for civil matters. For the Bast three years, I have volunteered for a local non - for - profit called The Michlana Monologues, which raises money and awareness for local organizations that heal victims of domestic abuse. I am also a liaison for the Women's and _ Gender Studies program at IU Bend focused on peer mentorshipand peer success. _ 4. Availability to attend Committee/ Board meetings on weekdays beginning at 3:00 p.m I am a single mother and a college student but can schedule my life In accordance to make these meetings a priority.
