Thank you. <br />Resident, of 25125 Pin Oak Dr. - I didn't know you were that good of a cop. I think its good <br />idea for him to write a book. However, something you just can't put in print. I stand on behalf of <br />myself and my brother Norvel. There are some bad things that my brother taught Derek that you <br />will never know. He taught him a lot of good stuff also. That is how he turned out to be as good <br />as he is. I love him as much as a man can love another man and still be a man. Enjoy your <br />retirement. <br />Resident (Jeff Rea President of Chamber of Commerce) - On behalf the business owners thank <br />you for keeping our businesses safe. Thank you to Derek for welcoming me and helping learn <br />about all the good things happening over here in South Bend. I got to know Derek after the <br />deaths of several police officers and he one the best characters and I really appreciate his great <br />service during that difficult time. Thank you Derek. <br />Resident, of 1207 Sunnymede- 20 years ago, when the World Cup was coming to the US we <br />everything very uniform. And Derek came with these kids' tee shirt and tennis shoes and it was <br />great because they had heart and drive. My friend told Matt it's about time you had some real <br />soccer in there. He wasn't talking about skill level he was talking about the drive these kids had. <br />I don't know how the housing authority got him to do it but I know Derek offered them an <br />incredible opportunity. He taught me you have given kids who don't a have an opportunity. <br />Resident, of 913 Diamond Ave. โ€” We've known each other for 50 years. Young kids in this <br />community got to see I different way of life because of him. He wasn't always right about these <br />but God bless his good heart. He is a competitor. You won't find someone who their job at the <br />Police Department more serious. (Inaudible). <br />Resident, of 51788 (inaudible (Derek's Daughter Jessica) - The things my Dad has done and <br />taught me help me every single day of my life. He'd give me shirt off his back but he'd call a <br />press conference to announce it first. Remember when I was kid and I would hear a pager go off <br />for SWAT calls and praying. I remember hearing the door creak open and him getting one last <br />look at me. I remember when he taught me it's better to light one tall candle than to live in total <br />darkness. Thank <br />you. <br />Resident, of (inaudible) - Going up with a cop for a dad had many perks. Breakfast consisted of <br />donuts and Yahoo. (inaudible) I got to meet a diverse group of people from the South Bend <br />Housing Authority. I learned many things from my Father. I learn what it means to work hard <br />and show dedication. I learned to work hard and support them even if you don't always agree <br />with their actions. I learned I cannot break my ankle and continue to play softball even if my <br />Dad thought I could just run it off. I also learned that no matter what I everyone will not like me. <br />He is called many thing including a police officer and city councilmen but I just call him Dad <br />and I couldn't be more proud. <br />Councilmember Dieter - Thank you to all who came up and spoke tonight. Mom for coming up <br />from Florida tonight. If there is any good that came from my parents it is the way I was raised. <br />When you were punished spank and you learned you lesson. All the discipline they showed me <br />hopefully I pass it on to my children. I thank my wife Susie for raising my 3 sons and the older <br />daughters. I think the most important thing that you can do in life is be a good parent. During a <br />soccer game one of our kids went to the bathroom on himself because he knew when he went <br />
