Sears Scholarship, at a reception on Friday, June 21 at 3:30 p.m. on the 14th floor <br />of County -City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd. <br />The award honors Evan J. Sears, an intern with the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, who was <br />killed in a traffic accident while working on a street project in 1999. The scholarship is open to <br />any student who has an internship with the City for at least a one summer. To apply interns write <br />an essay about workplace safety. <br />Aldridge, a graduate student in Ball State's urban and regional planning master's program, is an <br />intern with the Department of Community Investment. Connors, a senior at Notre Dame, is an <br />engineering intern with the Department of Public Works. <br />"We are honored to keep Evan's memory alive through this scholarship that recognizes hard- <br />working young people just like him," Mayor Buttigieg says. "This scholarship also raises <br />awareness about the importance of workplace safety for everyone." <br />
