REGULAR MEETING APRIL 13, 2015 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Councilmember Gavin Ferlic, Chairperson, Community Investment Committee met this <br />afternoon and send bill 15-25 to the full Council favorably. <br /> <br />th <br />Presenter: Brock Zeeb, Department of Community Investment, Offices on the 14 floor – Before <br />you is a proposed personal property tax abatement for Bamar Plastics. The new projected taxes <br />created are $30,883, estimated taxes to be abated over the five (5) year period are $14,156, and <br />total taxes to be paid over the five (5) year period are $16,727. I will answer any questions that <br />you may have. <br /> <br />Petitioner: Jim McVay, 1702 S. Robinson, South Bend – Bamar is a small company that has <br />been in business since 1978. As we continue to recover from the down turn we are looking to <br />get a new cooling tower, and molding press. If we don’t make these improvements we can lose <br />the jobs that we do have and lose the business for new projects coming up. <br /> <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br /> <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to <br />this bill, Councilmember Gavin Ferlic made a motion to adopt 15-25. Councilmember Oliver <br />Davis seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of seven (7) ayes. <br /> <br />15-13 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, VOICING CONCERNS OVER MANY OF <br />THE ASSESSMENTS OF LAND IN THE CITY AND SEEKING AMICABLE <br />SOLUTIONS OF THESE CONCERNS WHICH ARE IN THE BEST <br />INTERESTS OF THE TAXPAYERS <br /> <br />th <br />Council Attorney Kathy requested a motion to continue bill 15-13 to April 27. So moved by <br />Councilmember Oliver Davis. Councilmember Mr. Ferlic made a motion to refer this bill to Health <br />& Public Safety, and Community Relations Committee to be continued. Councilmember Schey <br />seconded the motion.
