<br /> <br /> <br />MEDIA ALERT <br />December 3, 2008 <br /> <br />Contact: Paula Garis, Special Events Coordinator, 574.299.4768 ext. 239 <br /> Mark Bradley, Director of Marketing, 574.299.4768 ext. 240 <br /> <br /> Downtown for the Holidays Events Begin Friday Evening <br /> <br /> <br />SOUTH BEND, Indiana – The South Bend Parks & Recreation Department’s annual <br />th <br />“Downtown for the Holidays” events begin this Friday (Dec. 5), with the tree lighting <br />on Jon Hunt Plaza, starting at 5:30 p.m. Children from Starz Academy will perform, and <br />the youth artists who created the Greeting Cards will be recognized. Santa will arrive <br />on a fire truck to help light the tree. <br /> <br />Festivities continue Saturday morning with “Breakfast with Santa” at the Newman <br />Center, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Jetta & the Jellybeans will perform, there will be face <br />painting, and balloon artists, and of course Santa. <br /> <br />Tea with Santa is Saturday afternoon at the Erksine Golf Course clubhouse, with sittings <br />at 12n & 1:15 p.m. This is a more elegant affair, and is always popular. <br /> <br />The events wind up Sunday afternoon with the Holiday Skating Party at the Howard <br />Park Ice Rink, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Admission is two pet food items, which will be <br />donated to South Bend Animal Control. They will be on site for this, with a few furry <br />friends, and Santa will be there talking last minute requests from the children. <br /> <br />The South Bend Parks & Recreation Department has been coordinating this annual <br />event for well over twenty years. It is the areas longest running family holiday <br />celebration.
