OF 50UTR,&4
O
v o
1865
HENRY DAVIS JR.
2ndDistrict South Bend City Council
PRESS RELEASE
January 23, 2015 .
For Immediate Release
Contact: Henry Davis Jr. - 574.235 5983
Email—hdavis ji southbendin.lzov
councilmandavis @gmail.com
'Indigenous People Day' is a recognition of a history of people that have not been given an
honorable distinction in our country. It would be great for the City of South Bend to join in with
other progressive communities in acknowledging the contributions made by Native Americans.
It is not my intent to divide or offend ethnic groups, insult the accomplishments of, minimize,
disturb or disrupt the celebrations of any who have also paid a price to be acknowledged the
same way for their contributions here in South Bend, Indiana.
This legislation was never meant to set aside or step on another culture, but show a true
understanding that all lives matter and deserve a seat at the decision making table. It is not only
to honor the diversity of Saint Joseph County but to be progressive and intentionally inclusive to
honor all cultures that have shared in the development of this city.
If anyone has been offended by a published story that misrepresented my intent, I apologize. I
value every ethnic group's contribution to our great country.
227 W.Jefferson Blvd.Rm.441
County-City Building South Bend,IN Office: (574)235-9321
Voicemail: (574)235-5983 Email:hdavis @.southbendin.gov
