ti
Common
South Bend t
NEWS RELEASE
Date: Monday, September 22, 2014
From: Council Member Henry Davis, Jr. Contact: 574-315-4112
2nd District councilmandavis @gmail.com
Councilman Henry Davis, Jr. honors two-time World Series Champions
(South Bend, IN) -- Tonight at the South Bend Common Council meeting the two time
World Series champs from Indiana's district 11 will be recognized for their
accomplishments. The team will be in attendance for recognition from city leaders. The
team has traveled across the country during their season to reclaim the title while
representing the South Bend area in grand fashion.
"This is a model for success. These families have sacrificed and invested in their
children. We as policy makers should do the same. We should ensure funding for our
community centers, after school programs and make sure that gyms are open during
the evening and weekend hours at our local schools, However, we can also fight for
families to have well-paying jobs and higher minimum wage", says Councilman Henry
Davis, Jr.
Clearly there is a huge financial sacrifice that comes with these opportunities which are
in excess of$5,000.00 or more for some families. If South Bend works at making the
children of this community a priority, we could have more World Series champions.
District 11 is made up of area high school players from Saint Joseph and LaPorte
counties. The young ladies will be accompanied by their parents, family and coaches at
tonight's ceremony.
