Dieter Contact: 532-2200 <br /> South Bend City Council Vice-President <br /> South Bend City Council Seeking Citizen Volunteers to Serve on <br /> Animal Control Commission and MBE/WBE Utilization Board <br /> The South Bend City Council will be appointing qualified individuals who wish to volunteer their time and <br /> talents on two important boards/commissions which serve the citizens of South Bend. <br /> On August l"the City's new animal care and control regulations took effect. As part of that ordinance, the City <br /> Council has the authority to appointment three (3) individuals to serve on a 5-member Animal Control <br /> Commission. Some of the duties and responsibilities of the Animal Control Commission include receiving and <br /> reviewing recommendations from the Shelter Manager; recommending policies and standards for the control <br /> and human treatment of animals; submitting an annual report by March I" to the Common Council and the <br /> Mayor; and hearing appeals. Applicants must be residents of the City of South Bend, have an interest and <br /> knowledge of animal care and control, would serve without compensation, and would serve at the pleasure of <br /> the Council. One of the three appointments by the Council is required to be a licensed veterinarian. Governing <br /> regulations may be found in Sections 5-95 through 5-97 of the South Bend Municipal Code. <br /> The Council has one (1) opening on the MBE/WBE Utilization Board. This board assists in the promotion of <br /> diversity and inclusion of minority-owed and women-owned businesses in the City. Applicants must be a <br /> resident of the City of South Bend; have background or interest in the area governed by the Board; would serve <br /> without compensation; and must be available to meet on a bi-weekly basis usually in the late afternoon. The <br /> successful applicant would be part of the City's nine-member board who is governed by the regulations set forth <br /> in Chapter 14.5 of the South Bend Municipal Code. <br /> The Council welcomes individuals to file their completed applications with the Office of the City Clerk and <br /> should be aware of the following dates: <br /> • Application Deadline: Noon on Friday, September 5, 2014 <br /> • Applicant Interviews: Afternoon of Monday, September 8, 2014 <br /> The Office of the City Clerk will make available copies of governing city ordinances. This is a great <br /> opportunity for residents to get involved with key programs in our City.
