PERSONNEL & FINANCE JULY 14, 2014 6:00 P.M. <br />Committee Members Present: Valerie Schey, Dr. David Varner, Derek Dieter, Henry Davis <br />Other Council Present: Tim Scott, Dr. Fred Ferlic, Oliver Davis, Gavin Ferlic, Karen White <br />Citizen Members Present: Chris Huff <br />Others Present: Chris Huff, Kathy Cekanski - Farrand, David Mathews, Mike Danch <br />Agenda: Discussion of the Proposed 2015 Civil City Budget Priorities <br />In the interest of time, Valerie Schey, Chair of the Personnel and Finance Committee simply polled each <br />Councilmember to give each an opportunity to declare their personal priorities. <br />Starting with the First District, Tim Scott listed public safety, infrastructure, and an expanded curb and <br />sidewalk replacement program. <br />Henry Davis representing the Second District, said the priorities are the same across the City, the key <br />being equal distribution of resources to all residents. <br />Valerie Schey, representing the Third District, said infrastructure, enforcement of traffic laws and more <br />attention to the business corridors, with the River Park corridor in the district being a priority. <br />Representing the Fourth District, Dr. Fred Ferlic, said the focus ought to be on quality of life issues <br />including the public safety and code enforcement. <br />Dr. David Varner representing the Fifth District, said emphasis ought to first be placed on public safety, <br />police and fire. He also thought the Council should have a better ongoing accounting of where <br />discretionary dollars go and how much is available. Other items needing discussion are to do with the <br />Scottsdale Pool as well as continued efforts to keep CSO compliance costs down. <br />Oliver Davis, Sixth District kept the focus on his district. Namely, improvements to Ewing Avenue and <br />Walker Field in the Rum Village Area. The effort to improve the Western Avenue corridor was also a <br />priority. <br />Derek Dieter, At Large, advocated bolstering efforts for economic development. Also mentioned were <br />infrastructure needs and public safety. <br />Karen White said several issues needed attention to truly address quality of life issues across the board. <br />She said it was not a question of how many dollars there are; but where the dollars were spent. Karen <br />further thought there needs to be more planning for what comes after the vacant and abandoned <br />homes are demolished. She also advocated for more minority recruiting for the SBPD. <br />1IPage <br />
