Substitute Bill No. 17 -14 <br />Responsible Animal and Pet Ownership Care and Control Regulation Ordinance <br />Page 25 <br />Sec. 5 -25 Animal Fights and Fighting Contests Prohibited.Zg <br />(a) No person shall permit or conduct any dogfight, cockfight, or other combat between <br />animals <br />or between animals and humans. <br />(c) OJ No person shall attend an animal fighting contest. <br />(d) c No person shall sell, purchase, own, harbor, give away, barter, breed, or <br />possess any animal for animal fighting. <br />(e) Ld) No person shall permit anyone to use any building, shed, room, yard, ground, <br />premises, vehicle or property, whether enclosed or not for the purpose of animal fighting. <br />(f) Ce) No person shall aid, abet, assist, act as judge or referee, bet or wager money or <br />other valuable consideration on the outcome of, be at, attend, or in any way engage in the furtherance of, <br />an exhibition of animal fighting. <br />Sec. 5 -26 Prohibited Animal Events. <br />No person or group of persons or any organization, whether for pay or other compensation or for free <br />promotional purpose, shall conduct or allow any event involving contests between animals or persons <br />using animals in any form or manner that threatens public safety or the safety, well - being, and comfort <br />of the animals involved. <br />Sec. 5 -27 Poisonous Bait Prohibited. <br />It shall be unlawful for any person to throw or deposit any known poisonous substance, whether mixed <br />with food or not, in any of the streets, alleys, parks, commons, yards, or other places, whether public or <br />private, so that it shall be likely to be eaten by any animal; provided, that it shall not be unlawful for a <br />person to expose on his own property common rat or mouse poison, unmixed or mixed only with <br />vegetable substances, or substances for the eradication of termites or similar insects. <br />28 Indiana Code § 35- 46 -3 -8 through Indiana Code § 35- 46 -3 -10 set forth the Indiana state law provisions addressing animal <br />fighting contests which new regulations taking effect on July 1, 2014. <br />
