COMMUNITY INVESTMENT JANUARY 13, 2014 3:30 P.M. <br />Committee Members Present: Gavin Ferlic, Henry Davis (3:35), Valerie Schey, Derek Dieter <br />Citizen Members Present: Vacant <br />Other Council Present: Tim Scott, Dr. Fred Ferlic, David Varner, Karen White (AB), <br />Oliver Davis <br />Others Present: Kathryn Roos, Chris Dressel, John Murphy, Brian Pawlowski <br />Agenda: Bill 14 -04 —Reconfirming Abatement <br />4601 Nimtz Somaschini <br />Bill 14 -05 — Brownfield Assessment Grant <br />Newly appointed Chair of the Community Investment Committee, Gavin Ferlic called the hearing to <br />order with three of four members present. Henry Davis arrived five minutes late; but was present to <br />vote on bill 14 -05. <br />The first item on the agenda was bill 14 -04, a reconfirming abatement for 4601 Nimtz Parkway, a <br />Somaschini Co. Gavin announced a request for a continuation to the next meeting on January 27, 2014 <br />had been requested. There was no objection. <br />Bill 14 -05, a bill requesting approval of a federal Brownfield assessment grant was presented by Chris <br />Dressel of the Community Investment Department (CID). Chris said the application was for $600,000 to <br />conduct an identify and inventory toxic waste parcels countrywide. The last assessment was done more <br />than 10 years ago and needed updating. If approved the grant would be awarded in October 2014 to be <br />used in a three year project. He emphasized the money was not for clean -up of sites. <br />Valerie Schey asked if there were local environmental firms that could do the work. Dressel said for <br />these professional services, the selected firm had unique capability. With that Valerie moved for a <br />favorable recommendation to full Council.
