REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 10TH, 1952 <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE TRANSFERRING MONIES FROM ENGINEERING DEPARTN�,'NT <br />L -724, MOTOR EQUIPTENT, $50,TO L -214 TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH,, <br />$50; FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT Q -11, SALARIES, $500 TO Q -2629 <br />MEDICAL SERVICES, $400 AND TO Q -344, MEDICAL SUPPLIES, $100; <br />FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT P -110 SALARIES, $3,000 TO BOARD OF <br />PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, H- 221A, STREET LIG'BTS AND TRAFFIC <br />SIGNALS, $3,000, ALL OF THE BUDGET FOR THE YEAR 1952 OF THE <br />CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman IvIuszynski made a motion <br />that the ordinance be referred to the Committee of the Whole for public hearing on November 24th. Councilman <br />Niezgodski seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />RESOLUT ION <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that the Contract heretofore entered <br />into by and between the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and the Gamewell <br />Company of Newton, Massachusetts, for the police signal system, for the contract price of $9966.60 is confirmed <br />and approved. <br />C1oyd Bestle Sr. <br />Member of the Uommon Council <br />Councilman Korpal made a motion for the adoption of the Resolution. Councilman Bestle seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried by a roll call vote of 9 ayes - 0 nays. <br />RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works and Safet of the City of South Bend, Indiana has heretofore unanimously <br />adopted a Resolution determining that it ishe best interest of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana that <br />system for the collection and disposition of garbage and trash throughout <br />the municipal government institute a <br />the City, and <br />WHEREAS, a preliminary study of the subject has been informally made by the members of this Council, and <br />WHEREAS, it appears.that the best interests of the people of South Bend will be served by municipal collection <br />of garbage and trash, <br />BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the Common Council of the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana that the proper legal <br />officers of said City be directed to take such steps as may be required to formulate a specific program for <br />municipal collection and disposition of trash and garbage in the City of South Bend, Indiana and to take such <br />further steps as may be required to implement and finance said project. <br />k— 1P <br />W. Hahn <br />Member of the Common Council <br />The following persons appeared before the Council to protest against the proposed requirement that householders <br />carry their garbage and trash containers to the front curbs on collection days: Messrs. C. W. Brown, 1317 So. <br />30th St., William`Urganski, 1710 N. College St., William LaSalle, 4123 Sunset Place, John Marshall, 1301 N. <br />Lafayette Blvd., Staley Kaminski, 601 N. Studebaker St., Axel Anderson, 813 Sherman Ave., and Mrs. Bernard <br />Walton, 1144 Kessler Blvd., Mrs..Harry May, 1001 Hudson Ave., Mrs. Elmer Navarre, 1408 Mishawaka Ave., Mrs. <br />Frank Dvoracek, 1809 S. Pulaski St., and Miss Mary Alice Buswell, 1812 S. Pulaski St. <br />Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the Resolution be tabled for further study. Councilman Muszynski <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no further business before the Council, Councilman Hahn made a motion to adjourn, which motion was <br />seconded by Councilman Muszynski.
