ORDIVANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FROM THE GENERAL STREET AND <br />TRAFFIC FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, OF THE <br />FOLLOWING AMOUNT TO THE FOLLOWING INDICATED ACCOUNT OF <br />THE 1948 BUDGET: STREET DEPARTMENT, 5 -331, GASOLINB, <br />$50000.00, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY MORGENCY. <br />The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Tellson made a motion <br />that the ordinance be referred to the Committee of the 'Whole for Public Hearing on November 22nd, 1948, at <br />8100 P.M. Councilman Kemper seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE TRANSFERRING THE SUM OF $5,000.00 FROM ACCOUNT <br />NUMBER 5 -12, WAGES, TO ACCOUNT NUMBER 5 -13, EXTRA AND OVER- <br />TIME, STREET DEPARTMENT, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY <br />EMERGENCY. <br />The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Muszynski made a motion <br />that the ordinance be referred to the Committee of the 'thole for Public Hearing on November 22nd, 1948, at <br />8r00 P.M. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FROM THE GENERAL FUND OF THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND OF THE FOLLOWING MOUNT TO THE FOLLOWING <br />INDICATED ACCOMIT OF THE 1948 BUDGETS FIRE DEPARTMENT, <br />Q -724, MOTOR EQUIPMENT, $309000.00, AND DECLARING AN <br />EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY. <br />The ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Muszynski made a motion <br />that the'ordinance be referred to the Committee of the Whole for Public Hearing on November 22nd, 1948, at <br />800 P.M. Councilman Beetle seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, the United States of America, acting through the Housing and Home Finance Agency, Public Housing <br />.Administration, owns permanent war house now known as PHA Project IND -12188 and 12197, consisting of <br />approximately Five Hundred (500) units located in the City of South Bend, State of Indiana; and <br />WHEREAS, such housing is no longer needed for purposes of war; and <br />WHEREAS, there exists in the City of South Bend a serious shortage of decent, safe and sanitary housing which <br />constitutes a menace to health, safety, morals and welfare of the inhabitants of the city, especially to the <br />families of veterans and servicemen of low income and other families of low income; and <br />WHEREAS, if the Congress of the United States should authorize the conveyance of such housing to provide <br />housing for families of low income The Housing Authority of The City of South Bend proposes to acquire such <br />housing and to operate it as low rent housing; <br />NON, THEREFOREs <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and City Council of the City of South Bend; <br />1. That it is the determination, finding and declaration of the Mayor <br />and City Council of South Bend that it will be in the best interests of the <br />community and of the families of veterans and servicemen "-, to make such housing <br />available as low rent housing for families of low income; <br />2. That the Mayor and City Council of South Bend hereby petition the <br />Congress of the United States to authorize the acquiring of such housing by <br />the Housing Authority of the City of South Bend to be administered as low <br />rent housing for families of low income; <br />3.. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />RESOLUTION <br />Meeting of Special Committee of All Members of <br />City Council, November 8th, 1948, <br />WHEREAS, a porition of South Bend lying adjacent to the railroads has been subjected to great property loss, <br />damage and inconveniences and <br />WHEREAS, the railroads have attempted to reduce the smoke with their present coal- burning engines which has <br />not accomplished its purpose, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by this Committee to ask the cooperation of the railroads now using coal - <br />burning engines within the limits of the City of South Bend to convert their equipment to oil burning engines. <br />Copy of this to Mayor, Board of Public Works and Safety, City Council, and one copy to each steam railroad <br />entering City of South Bend. <br />(Signed) WALTER GLASS (Signed) WALTER C.
