Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion <br />that the ordinance be set for public hearing on May 10, 1965. Councilman Wise seconded the motion. Motion <br />carried. <br />RESOLUTION <br />A RESOLUTION RELATIVE TO THE INTRODUCTION OF FLUORIDES <br />INTO THE PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY <br />WHEREAS investigation by competent dental,medical and public health authorities show that the presence of <br />fluoride in drinking water is a deterrent to tooth decay; and <br />WHEREAS laboratory analysis shows that such chemical substance in optimum quantities is not found naturally <br />in the public water supply of South Bend, Indiana; and <br />WHEREAS Regulation HSE 2 of the Indiana State Board of Health permits the addition of certain fluoride compounds <br />to public water supplies within controlled limits: <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of South Bend is hereby petitioned and requested to provide the <br />means for, and to proceed.with whatever action is necessary that will result in the addition of suffic <br />quantities of fluoride compound to the public water supply to bring the total amount of fluoride ions <br />(F 1) present in the finished water to the optimum concentration recommended by State Board of Health <br />but not exceeding 1.5 parts per million by weight. <br />HAS /pc /m <br />/°s/ Herbert A. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 0 nays - <br />2 absent (Councilmen Geib and Glass). <br />RESOLUTION <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SOUTH BEND <br />CITY WATER WORKS AND THE SEWAGE DISPOSAL PLANT OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND AND ROBERT L. MILLER, AGENT FOR AN UNDISCLOSED <br />PRINCIPAL, FOR FURNISHING OF WATER AND SEWAGE TREATMENT TO <br />CLAY TOWNSHIP, ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA. <br />Councilman Smith made a motion that the Resolution be referred to the Capital Improvement Committee and setifor <br />public hearing on May 10, 1965. Councilman Wise seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />
