Rabbi Schulman and Mr. Jesse Dickinson. <br />Councilman Muszynski made a motion for adoption of the Resolution. Councilman Allen seconded the motion. Motion <br />lost upon a roll call vote of 5 nays (Councilmen Ladewski, Tellson, Glass, Krueper and Lehman) and 4 ayes (Councilmen <br />Kroll, Allen, Coleman and Muszynski). <br />RESOLUTION - -- MICHAEL DE KOVATS DAY <br />WHEREAS: The freedoms and liberties enjoyed by Americans today spring from the sacrifices of the patriots <br />of the American Revolution who were of many races and nationalities; and <br />WHEREAS, in that early struggle of our country to achieve her independence, One Colonel Michael DeKovats, <br />a Hungarian patriot serving without pay, was killed in action on May 11, 1778, at Charleston, South Carolina; and <br />WHEREAS, today the people of the homeland of Michael DeKovats and those of many other countries are deptri <br />of freedom and their liberties suppressed for which DeKovats gave his life on our soil; and <br />WHEREAS, in this age when the freedom and liberty of the entire world is threatened by the forces of tyrann <br />it is proper that we take note of the service and sacrifice of Michael DeKovats in order to gain inspiration in our <br />fight against the forces of tyranny which would deptrive us of these cherished freedoms. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Frank J. Bruggner, Mayor of the City of South Bend, State of Indiana, do hereby proclaim <br />Thursday, May 11th, 1961, as <br />"MICHAEL DE KOVATS DAY'.' <br />and that. "the'Mayor of said City, by appropriate proclamation, commemorate the life and sacrifice of that hero of <br />the American Revolution. Motion <br />carried upon roll call vote of 9 ayes, 0 nays. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />A letter from Robert Stephan, Attorney, Addressed to Councilman Allen relative to the Northwest-Little Leage, was <br />placed in the Grievance Committee. <br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Ladewski made a motion to adjourn. Council <br />Krueper seconded the motion.
