is highly controversial. Some experts believe that it is a waste of money and all of the elms will eventually die anyway. There are some that claim the loss can be reduced to approximately three per cent of the total number per year. A few years ago I was informed that out Indiana State Entomologist recommended that no state legislative measures be taken to provide an Act for care and removal of elms affected by the disease and so far as I know this advice was followed. COMMUNICATION 819 Corby Boulevard South Bend, Indiana August 30, 1960 City Council City Hall South Bend, Indiana Dear Sirs: Last Friday, I had need to call on the Howard Park Recreation Department for a supply of athletic equipment for a large picnic. I dealt-with a Mrs. Mildred Seick and a Mr. Peter Ranich, and may I say, it was a very pleasant experience. The attention and interest shown was most gratifying, and certainly rare in this hurried world of ours. I'm also happy to say they demonstrated that courtesy is not yet completely passe'.
