A) REGULAR MEETING - RECONVENED July 26, 1971 REGULAR MEETING - RECONVENED (Continued) COMMUNICATIONS PETITION LL South Bend, Indiana" July 21, 1971 TO: THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA GENTLEMEN: WE, the sole owner of the real estate described in the attached ordinance, desire to have said real estate annexed to the City of South Bend. We are making said Petition as an accommodation to the Quarter- back, Inc., who contemplate the construction of a thirteen (13) story motel, and request that said special ordinance attached hereto for the purpose of annexing the territory be acted upon at your earliest convenience. Petition accepted as read by voice vote. 8 ayes, 1 absent (Councilman Zielinski). ORDINANCE 5320 -71 This ordinance was given third reading. (At the July 26, 1971 meeting, Councilman Janet Allen moved that continuation of public hearing on this ordinance be set for July 26, 1971, seconded by Councilman Zielinski.) AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 40 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, 1963, ALSO KNOWN AS ORDINANCE NO. 3702 AS AMENDED, THE ZONING ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. (123 East Ireland Road) Motic Councilman Laven moved for adoption of the amendment, seconded by Councilman Janet Allen. Barrie Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that this ordinance be passed as amended. Motion seconded by Councilman Grounds. The ordinance was passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes, 1 absent (Councilman Zielinski). (8 ayes: Councilmen Laven, Allen, Reinke, Craven, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Wise and Palmer.) ORDINANCE 5321 -71 AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WATER WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND CLOW CORPORATION, BENSENVILLE, ILLINOIS, FOR THE PURCHASE OF: I. CAST IRON OR DUCTILE PIPE AND FITTINGS: II. MECHANICAL JOINT GATE VALVES, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $618,063.13. The ordinance was given third reading. Councilman Palmer made a motion that this ordinance be defeated; seQnded by Councilman Janet Allen. The ordinance was defeated by a roll call vote of 6 ayes (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Reinke, Szymkowiak, Wise, Palmer), 2 nays (Councilmen Craven and Grounds), 1 absent (Councilman Zielinski). ORDINANCE 5322 -71 AN ORDINANCE FIXING MAXIMUM SALARIES AND WAGES OF APPOINTED OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE YEAR 1972, AS AMENDED. Councilman Reinke moved for adoption of the amendment, seconded by Councilman Laven. Motion carried. This ordinance was given third reading. Councilman Craven made a motion that the ordinance be passed as amended; seconded by Councilman Reinke. The ordinance was passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Craven, Reinke, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Wise, Palmer), 1 absent (Councilman Zielinski). Councilman Grounds then made the comment that the City's professional people deserved this increase and he was sorry that it could not be raised above this level. Council President Laven stated that the Council's position was one of compromise. All agreed. ORDINANCE 5323 -71 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 11 SECTION 11 -18, ORDINANCE NUMBERS 3913, 9 7, AND 4537 -62, A 3, OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PROVIDING FOR STANDARDS FOR INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT GENERALLY. The ordinance was given third reading. Councilman Reinke made a motion for passage of this ordinance, seconded by Councilman Szymkowiak. The ordinance was passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes (Councilmen Laven, Allen, Craven, Reinke, Grounds, Szymkowiak, Wise, Palmer), 1 absent (Councilman Zielinski).
