COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING JULY 27, 1970
ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF LANDS BELONGING
TO THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND FOR THE USE AND BENEFIT OF
ITS PARK DEPARTMENT.
This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and
opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. James Seitz, Acting Park Super-
intendent, said that it is in the best interests of the city to sell the land to the Indiana &
Michigan Electric Company so that they can expand their substation at the northeast corner of
Potawatomi Park. He said the Park Commissioners felt the land is no longer useful for park
purposes. Mr. Miller, Division Superintendent of the I&M Electric Co., said the expansion of
the substation will allow better electrical service in that area in the city. Councilman
Szymkowiak made a motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, that the Ordinance go to the Council as
favorable. Motion carried. 8 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent.
There being no further business to be considered before the Committee of the Whole, Chairman
Grounds entertained a motion to rise and report to the Council.
