(CAI _. <br />REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 11, 1969 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council <br />Chambers in City Hall on Monday, August 11;_1969 at 8 :26 p.m., all members present. The meeting <br />was called to order by Council President Robert 0. Laven, who presided. <br />ROLL CALL <br />PRESENT: Councilmen Laven, Allen, Craven, Grounds <br />Szymkowiak, Wise, Zielinski, Reinke and Palmer. <br />ABSENT: None. <br />IREPORT OF COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:' <br />Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that <br />they have inspected the minutes of July 28, 1969 meeting of the Council and found them correct. <br />They therefore recommend that the same be approved. <br />/s/ Robert 0. Palmer <br />There being no objections, the report was accepted as read and placed on file. <br />CITIZENS REQUESTS - MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS <br />Mr. John Lawecki, 2115 Glen Street spoke for a group of South Bend residents demanding details <br />of the proposed turnkey public housing project to be built at Ewing Avenue and Grant Streets for <br />low income families. The residents were informed by the Councilmen that there were two public <br />hearings, one at the Area Plan Commission meeting and one at the Common Council, they will be <br />able to attend and express their opinions. Council President Laven told them a petition to <br />annex the 13 -acre tract was filed with the council July 28, 1969 and now is in the council <br />Annexation Committee and under study by the Engineering Department. Later, he said, the petition <br />will be sent to the Area Plan Commission for public hearing and recommendation. <br />I COM14UNICATION <br />This communication from Attorney Joseph A. Roper was withdrawn from the agenda. Councilman <br />Reinke made the motion that the amendment to the original petition be withdrawn and a new <br />petition be redrafted to incorporate both the original petition and the new petition. Councilman <br />Allen seconded the motion. Motion carried. Council President Laven instructed the Clerk to <br />send a letter informing Mr. Roper of the Council's recommendation. <br />COMMITTEE REPORT - ANNEXATION COMMITTEE <br />August 11, 1969 <br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee The Annexation Committee to whom was referred "A PETITION FOR ANNEXATION AND FOR <br />ZONING CLASSIFICATION." (Midwest Turnkey) Location: Grant & Ewing Streets; Attorney, Robert <br />L. Miller. <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion The Committee <br />recommends that the petition be referred to The Area Plan Commission for zoning recommendation <br />and that said recommendation report be forwarded to the Annexation.Committee, and, also, that a <br />copy of said petition be directed to the Annexation Committee for study. <br />REPORT FROM AREA PLAN COMMISSION <br />July 30, 1969 <br />The Honorable Common Council <br />City of South Bend <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Gentlemen: <br />/s/ Fredrick D. Jefferson Blvd.) <br />The attached petition of Frank Brazeau, et al, was legally advertised under date of July 11 and <br />18 and given public hearing on July 22, 1969.
