REGULAR MEETING MAY 12, 1969 <br />u <br />RESOLUTION NO. 211 -69 (Continued) <br />Speaking in favor of the resolution was Mr. Charles Lennon, Model Cities Director. He explained <br />this resolution authorized the City to enter into a contract to obtain a $134,000.00 grant to <br />carry out the Model Neighborhood program. He stated that the big success of the Model Cities <br />program in South Bend has been due to good publicity from the local newspapers and television <br />stations, local neighborhood residents participation and the consideration from the Common <br />Council. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that the resolution be adopted. Councilman Reinke <br />seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Councilman Grounds asked that a letter be directed to the Indiana State Highway Commission <br />seeking restoration of the pavement on U.S. 420 in the 2300 and 2400 block of Lincoln Way West. <br />Council- President Laven asked that the City Bus System be asked to provide bus service to the <br />Public Housing project at Marquette Avenue and Hamilton Streets. He directed the Clerk to <br />write both letters. <br />The Council unanimously approved a motion by Councilman Reinke that the Council extend its <br />sympathy to City Clerk Kathryn L. Blough, whose mother Mrs. Katherine Fahner died Monday in <br />Reed City,Michigan, in the form of a Resolution at the next Council meeting. <br />In reply to Councilman Szymkowiak's question concerning the repairing of the fence around the <br />City Cemetery on LaPorte Avenue, City Engineer Lloyd Taylor said the Schuell Fence Company <br />has the order to repair it and they will have it fixed before Memorial Day. <br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Grounds made a motion to <br />adjourn.
