REGULAR MEETING MAY 12, 1969 u RESOLUTION NO. 211 -69 (Continued) Speaking in favor of the resolution was Mr. Charles Lennon, Model Cities Director. He explained this resolution authorized the City to enter into a contract to obtain a $134,000.00 grant to carry out the Model Neighborhood program. He stated that the big success of the Model Cities program in South Bend has been due to good publicity from the local newspapers and television stations, local neighborhood residents participation and the consideration from the Common Council. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion that the resolution be adopted. Councilman Reinke seconded the motion. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS Councilman Grounds asked that a letter be directed to the Indiana State Highway Commission seeking restoration of the pavement on U.S. 420 in the 2300 and 2400 block of Lincoln Way West. Council- President Laven asked that the City Bus System be asked to provide bus service to the Public Housing project at Marquette Avenue and Hamilton Streets. He directed the Clerk to write both letters. The Council unanimously approved a motion by Councilman Reinke that the Council extend its sympathy to City Clerk Kathryn L. Blough, whose mother Mrs. Katherine Fahner died Monday in Reed City,Michigan, in the form of a Resolution at the next Council meeting. In reply to Councilman Szymkowiak's question concerning the repairing of the fence around the City Cemetery on LaPorte Avenue, City Engineer Lloyd Taylor said the Schuell Fence Company has the order to repair it and they will have it fixed before Memorial Day. There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Grounds made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Allen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
