REGULAR MEETING <br />RESOLUTION NO. 207 -69 (Continued) <br />MARCH 10, 1969 <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. Council - President Robert 0. Laven <br />made the following statement: "The Council has initiated action to the Redevelopment Commis- <br />sion to conduct a study as it applies to the 1968 Housing Law to look into the entire area. <br />The Council recognizes the condition of the area and is expressing their concern in this form <br />and are directing the Department of Redevelopment to conduct such a further study. This is <br />the purpose of this Resolution this evening. In our districts, stress has been maintained on <br />the need to involve and keep posted the area residents. We also further understand the concern <br />to be kept cognizant of the situation." <br />Councilman Allen asserted that she wanted to go on record that she does not approve a large, <br />multi -stage program - -'only in the immediate Ohio - Keasey area." Councilman Szymkowiak stated it <br />-was most important to upgrade the property in this area. Councilman Craven said anything that <br />is done will come before the Council on a year -to -year basis and we will see it as it develops. <br />Councilman Grounds declared he was opposed to a complete urban renewal program and wants to <br />avert the tearing out of a lot of homes. He stated that "we can help in other ways, such as <br />making loans, improving streets and rehabilitation." <br />Councilman Reinke made a motion that the Resolution be adopted by a roll call vote. Councilman <br />Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carries. 9 ayes, (Councilmen Allen, Craven, Grounds, <br />Laven, Palmer, Reinke, Szymkowiak, Wise and Zielinski) 0 nays 0 absent. <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />Councilman Allen asked if a new junk auto ordinance has been prepared as yet. City Attorney <br />Crumpacker disclosed that he has written to other cities that have workable junk auto laws upon <br />which to pattern one for our city, however, he stated "as it stands, we can't go on private <br />property to remove junk cars. Junk cars parked on streets are covered by existing ordinances." <br />Councilman Reinke instructed the Clerk, to write a letter of condolence to Mayor Lloyd Allen <br />on the recent death of his brother, Charles, who lived in Indianapolis. <br />There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Zielinski made a motion <br />to adjourn.
