COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING AUGUST 26, 1968 41k' I Stephen T. McTigue, executive secretary of the South Bend - Mishawaka Area Chamber of Commerce, expressed concern with the tax increase and requested the Council to give pinpoint value on this budget. Larry DeFries, represent - ing_ the Jaycees was pleased with the proposed cuts by the Council. Speaking against the budget was Mr. Robert Booth, 615 S. Greenlawn, and Mr. Richard Paiden who asked if any of the city officials had attended seminars on systems analysis on cost reduction. Councilman Laven moved for a twenty minute recess. Councilman Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. Recess 8 :55 P.M. Reconvened 9:30 P.M. Councilman Craven made a motion the Budget Ordinance be amended as read. Councilman Laven seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Craven made a motion the Ordinance go to the Council favorableas: amended. Councilman Allen: seconded the motion. Motion carried. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES AND FIXING THE RATE OF TAXATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF RAISING REVENUE TO MEET THE NECESSARY EXPENSE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31, 1969. This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above Ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Councilman Reinke made a motion the Tax Levy Ordinance go to the Council as favorable with the following amendments. General Fund, the-sum of 2.42. Park Maintenance Fund, the sum of .46. Redevelopment Bond Fund, the sum of .168. Human Relations and Fair Employment Practices Commission Fund, the sum of .015. Cumulative Sewer Building and Sinking Fund, the sum of .25. Councilman Szymkowiak seconded the motion. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Laven made a motion to rise and report to the Council.
