<br />ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN
<br />THE BUREAU OF WATER OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br />BEND, INDIANA, AND McCULLOUGH & ASSOCIATES
<br />PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS, INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA,
<br />FOR VARIOUS ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL SER-
<br />VICES RENDERED AND FEES AND EXPENSES
<br />INCURRED PURSUANT TO EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT
<br />WITH THE CITY DATED FEBRUARY 20, 1973, IN
<br />THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $14,157.24.
<br />his ordinance had first reading. Councilman Parent made a motion that the ordinance be set for
<br />ublic hearing and second reading on May 28, 1974, seconded by Councilman Taylor. The motion
<br />arried.
<br />RDINANCE AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN
<br />THE BUREAU OF WATER OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br />BEND, INDIANA, AND (1) L. 0. GATES CHEVROLET
<br />CORPORATION, SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND (2)
<br />JORDAN FORD CITY, INCORPORATED, SOUTH BEND,
<br />INDIANA, FOR THE PURCHASE OF CERTAIN VEHICLES
<br />IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $16,307.59.
<br />his ordinance had first reading. Councilman Newburn made a motion that the ordinance be set for
<br />ublic hearing and second reading on May 28, 1974, seconded by Councilman Taylor. The motion
<br />arried.
<br />PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR
<br />Maurice Cohen, 725 East Eckman Street, wondered if the Street Department had two trucks
<br />bered 110. He stated that he had seen the truck on state roads south of the city. He also
<br />tioned the placement of the decals on the city -owned vehicles.
<br />r. William Hojnacki, Director of the Department of Human Resources and Economic Development,
<br />tated that the Housing Committee and the Human Resources Committee had referred to them an
<br />rdinance dealing with the implementation of the housing plan and a drug abuse appropriation. He
<br />oped the Council would set the ordinances for public hearing and take action soon. Council
<br />resident Nemeth stated that the Council intended to take care of the matter in the unfinished
<br />usiness portion of the meeting.
<br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS
<br />ouncil President Nemeth explained that, regarding the sign and outdoor advertising ordinance,
<br />hich was passed by the Council on March 11, 1974, as amended, another vote of the Council was
<br />eeded according to the statutes because the Area Plan Commission had approved the amended ordinan
<br />ith the exception of the amendment concerning signs painted directly onto buildings. Councilman
<br />arent made a motion that the ordinance pass, as amended by the Council, seconded by Councilman
<br />aylor. The ordinance passed by a roll call vote of nine ayes (Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, Mill
<br />arent, Taylor, Kopczynski, Horvath, Newburn and Nemeth).
<br />ouncil President Nemeth indicated that the Public Works Committee had referred to it on April 22,
<br />974, ordinances appropriating $28,500., $244,268 and $20,000 out of revenue sharing funds for the
<br />epartment of Public Works. He asked what the recommendation of the committee was, and Councilman
<br />orvath made a motion that the ordinances appropriating $28,.500 and $244,268 be set for public
<br />earing and second reading on May 28, 1974, seconded by Councilman Taylor. The motion carried.
<br />ouncil President Nemeth indicated that the Housing Committee had referred to it on April 22, 1974,
<br />rdinances appropriating $40,000 from the Park Fund and $563,000 out of revenue sharing funds for
<br />he Department of Human Resources. He asked what the recommendation of the committee was, and
<br />ouncilman Miller made a motion that the ordinances both be set for public hearing and second
<br />eading on May 28, 1974, seconded by Councilman Taylor. The motion carried.,
<br />ouncil President Nemeth indicated that the Human Resources Committee had referred to it on
<br />pril 22, 1974, an ordinance appropriating $39,173 out of revenue sharing funds for the Department
<br />f Human Resources. He asked what the recommendation of the committee was, and Councilman Serge
<br />ade a motion that the ordinance be set for public hearing and second reading on May 28, 1974,
<br />econded by Councilman Parent. The motion carried.
<br />ouncilman Parent referred to a letter written by the policemen questioning the need of the Public
<br />afety Department. He commended Mayor Miller's stand on the need of the department.
<br />ouncil President Nemeth wondered about the proper zoning of the Delos House located on Bartlett
<br />venue. He asked that the City Attorney check into the matter as the Council would be having a
<br />ublic hearing concerning the drug abuse appropriation at the May 28th meeting.
<br />NEW BUSINESS
<br />uncilman Miller made a motion that the next regular meeting of the Council be held on Tuesday,
<br />y 28, 1974, at 7:00 p.m., seconded by Councilman Horvath. The motion carried.
