He mentioned that, if the job was to <br />be done by the Park Department, he estimated that it would take a budget of $200,000 to establish <br />forestry department to properly maintain the trees in the tree lawn area. He stated that, in the <br />meantime, the Park Department would do the best job possible and hoped the citizens would comply <br />with the department's orders to remove or trim the trees in the tree lawn area. <br />Councilman Serge referred to the incident of the light pole damage at O'Brien and Boland Parks. H <br />recommended that a reward be offered regarding information about the vandals. Mr. Seitz indicated <br />that this possibility had been discussed. He asked that, if the citizens hear anything unusual in <br />the park areas, they should contact the Police Department. Councilman Kopczynski suggested that <br />the poles be sheeted with steel at least 12 feet high, and Council President Nemeth felt this was <br />a serious concern and indicated that perhaps, if need be, the lights should not be used. He thank <br />Mr. Seitz for his presentation. <br />Councilman Newburn made a motion to strike the rezoning ordinance for the southwest corner of <br />Chippewa and Michigan from the Council's files in accordance with the report of the Ordinance <br />Committee, seconded by Councilman Taylor. The motion carried. <br />(ORDINANCES, SECOND READING <br />ORDINANCE NO. 5650 -74 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 20, <br />VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC, OF THE MUNICIPAL <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />This ordinance had second reading. Councilman Taylor made a motion to amend the ordinance as <br />amended in the Committee of the Whole portion of the meeting, seconded by Councilman Horvath. The <br />motion carried. Councilman Taylor then made a motion that the ordinance pass, as amended, seconde <br />by Councilman Parent. Also, that the Area Plan Commission had indicated that it was considering rezoning the <br />entire neighborhood to the same classification. Councilman Miller seconded the motion.
