Building's condition <br />This section introduces a practical approach <br />to conducting a preliminary assessment using <br />four simple tools that work together to help <br />you understand the building’s condition. Each <br />one supports a different way of observing and <br />recording what you see on site. When used <br />together, they allow you to gather information <br />in a structured and reliable way, even if you <br />don’t have a background in preservation. <br />The examples provided in this section will <br />show how these tools complement each other <br />during a site visit, helping you document your <br />observations clearly. <br />Once you’ve collected this information, you <br />can refer to trusted sources—such as the <br />National Park Service’s Preservation Briefs— <br />or consult professionals to get more specific <br />recommendations based on your findings. <br />04
