14 <br />Housing <br />Participants were asked to share their vision for hous- <br />ing in the neighborhood and to prioritize the housing <br />related topics that are most important to them. <br />We heard the following: <br />• In addition to the importance of helping existing <br />homeowners, character of the neighborhood– <br />walkability, sustainable building, & better lighting, <br />streetscapes are important <br />• Community built by this community <br />• Tiny houses, single family’s [sic] <br />• Grant programs for upgrades and safety to older <br />existing houses <br />• Mix use of housing, single family, senior housing, <br />4plexes, and veteran <br />• RE: Housing, Most important ARCHITECTURAL <br />CHARACTER, no vinyl, no replacement windows, <br />no removal of trim, no ‘wrong’ doors and railings <br />• Duplexes, renovated homes <br />• Develop new homes that are affordable without <br />raising taxes, build garages, restore the alleys <br />• To [sic] many non-conforming rental properties, <br />not zoned, illegal rentals <br />• Housing for seniors that includes garden space <br />• Diverse size/priced single, multifamily rental/own- <br />er occupied where bank president, English teach- <br />er, store clerk, and waitress can live on same block <br />• Neighborhoods decline as the number of rentals <br />increase <br />• No buffer between commercial store and single <br />family homes <br />• Less rental properties and bad landlords <br />• Support renters whose landlords are not caring <br />well for home. <br />• Gathering place <br />When asked to prioritize housing related topics, <br />neighbors identified supporting existing homeown- <br />ers, rehabilitating the existing housing, and afford- <br />ability as the top three housing topics.
