The compromise proposed does not in any way address the concerns of the Public Works Department. A vehicle using the alley would still not be able to make a turn to the north. Also, I must question the petitioners ability to guarantee that the vacated alley would always remain free of obstacles, etc. I hope this answers your questions. He stated that the South Bend Fire Department requires proper fire lanes for firefighting purposes. The vacation of the alley between Ironwood and 21st Street, just south of Mishawaka Avenue would not be faovrable to the Fire Department in event of a fire at the house which is located on the south east portion of the alley intersection. He requested that the Council not grant the all vacation regardless of the compromise.. Council Member Zakrzewski made motion to send this bill to the Council unfavorable, seconded by Council Member Puzzello. The motion carried by a roll call vote of 5 ayes 4 nays (Council Me ers Soderberg, Slavinskas, Coleman and Voorde).
