The motion carried. <br />BILL NO. 133 -87 A BILL APPROVING PARKING RATES FOR PARKING GARAGES AND PARKING <br />LOTS OWNED, LEASED AND OPERATED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Michael Vance, Controller, <br />made the presentation for the bill. He indicated the administration has been <br />reviewing parking rates in the downtown area and Redevelopment is contemplating the <br />construction of a new parking facility on the northwest corner of the intersection <br />of Wayne and St. Joseph Street. He indicated that in order to provide parking at a <br />price reflective of the cost in that facility, the other two garages and flat lots <br />the parking rates should be amended as proposed in this bill. He indicated the <br />privately owned garages downtown are charging a monthly rate of: Valley American <br />$50; 1st Source $40 and First Interstate $35. he indicated the rates for the <br />municipally owned garages would still result in a lower monthly parking rate than <br />the other facilities. Council Member Serge made a motion to recommend this bill to <br />the Council favorably, seconded by Council Member Beck.
