Introduction <br /> The City of South Bend is the county seat of, St. Joseph County, Indiana, on the St. Joseph River <br /> near its southernmost bend. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total of 103,453 residents; its <br /> Metropolitan Statistical Area had a population of 324,501 and Combined Statistical Area of <br /> 812,199. It is the fourth-largest city in Indiana, serving as the economic and cultural hub of <br /> Northern Indiana. The University of Notre Dame is located just to the north in the unincorporated <br /> neighborhood known as Notre Dame, Indiana, and is an integral contributor to the region's <br /> economy. <br /> Today, the largest industries in the City of South Bend are health care, education, small business, <br /> and tourism. Remaining large corporations include Crowe LLP, Honeywell,and AM General. <br /> The City of South Bend, Indiana is an entitlement community under the U.S. Department of <br /> Housing&Urban Development's(HUD) for the following Federal programs: <br /> • Community Development Block Grant(CDBG)Program and <br /> • Emergency Solutions Grant(ESG)Program. <br /> In addition, the City of South Bend is also the HOME Participating Jurisdiction (PJ) of the St. <br /> Joseph County Housing Consortium.
