REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 9, 2002 <br />16 runs in the 6th inning in a dramatic comeback win of 17 -8 over the team from Manila, <br />Philippines; and <br />WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council is proud to acknowledge that the Chet <br />Waggoner Little League Boys Team finished 5th in the world at the 2002 Senior League World <br />Series in Bangor, Maine, after playing 11 innings against Latin America which ended with the score <br />9 -8. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council <br />hereby publicly honors the 2002 CHET WAGGONER LITTLE LEAGUE BOYS TEAM for a great <br />season ofbaseball and for countless memories on their journey to the Senior League Baseball World <br />Series in Bangor, Maine. <br />Section II. The Common Council commends each of these student athletes, their coach and <br />manager, their family and friends, for their many special talents, both on and off the playing field, <br />in proudly and enthusiastically representing the City of South Bend, Indiana, as the U.S. Central <br />Region Champions. <br />Section III. Luecke, Mayor <br />Councilmember Al "Buddy" Kirsits made the presentation for this Resolution by reading it in its <br />entirety and presenting a signed copy to each member of the team. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />An unnamed representative from the team thanked the Council for this very special honor. He noted <br />that all the way through the tournament they felt like it was very important for them to represent the <br />City of South Bend the best they could and they did it with class.
