REGULAR MEETING APRIL 8, 2002
SECTION VIII. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption
by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.
s/Karen White
Member of the Common Council
Councilmember King reported that the Community and Economic Development Committee met
on this bill and recommends this Resolution to the Council favorably.
Mr. John Peddycord, 300 North Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana, made the presentation for
this Resolution.
Mr. Peddycord advised that PEI Genesis is adding a twenty thousand plus (20,000 +) square foot
warehouse addition to their assembling and warehouse facility on North Bendix Drive. Additionally,
extensive renovation of the entire building will take place at a total cost of approximately $1.455
million. Currently ninety (90) individuals are employed and they intend to add two (2) new
employees with hopefully more in the future. Mr. Peddycord informed the Council that PEI Genesis
has a very diverse workforce that they intend to continue. He noted that tax relief provided by this
tax abatement will help offset the high inventory taxes due to the fact that they assemble quite a lot
of component parts as well as finished products on this site. More important, it will eliminate the
need to rent warehouse space elsewhere in the City which is not convenient.
A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time.
There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this
Resolution, Councilmember Coleman made a motion to adopt this Resolution. Councilmember
Varner seconded the motion which carried and the Resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of eight
(8) ayes.
RESOLUTION NO. 3078 -02 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND DESIGNATING CERTAIN
AREAS WITHIN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA, COMMONLY KNOWN AS 735 LINCOLN
WAY WEST, AN ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION AREA
FOR PURPOSES OF A TEN (10) YEAR REAL
PROPERTY TAX ABATEMENT FOR SOUTH BEND
HERITAGE FOUNDATION (TEACHERS CREDIT
UNION)
WHEREAS, a petition for real property tax abatement has been filed with the City Clerk for
consideration by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana requesting that the area
commonly known as 735 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, Indiana, and which is more particularly
described as follows:
Parcel #1 Lot Number One (1) as shown on the recorded Plat of Kent
and Garrison's Subdivision of Out Lot One (1) of Hendrick's and
Grant Addition to the town.
Parcel #2 Lots Numbered Eighteen (18) and Twenty -three (23) as
shown on the recorded Plat of James D.
