REGULAR MEETING JUNE 28, 2004 <br />COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />FUND #212 FOR DISTRIBUTION PURSUANT TO <br />THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE'S WEED <br />AND SEED GRANT PROGRAM <br />This bill had first reading. Councilmember Coleman made a motion to refer this bill to the <br />Community and Economic Development Committee and set it for Public Hearing and Third <br />- Reading on July 12, 2004. Councilmember Kuspa seconded the motion which carried by a voice <br />vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />BILL NO. 38 -04 FIRST READING ON A BILL OF THE COMMON <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />ANNEXING TO AND BRINGING WITHIN THE CITY <br />LIMITS OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, CERTAIN <br />LAND IN CENTRE TOWNSHIP CONTIGUOUS <br />THEREWITH; HIDDEN CREEK, LLC, 20751 JACKSON <br />ROAD <br />This bill had first reading. Councilmember Coleman made a motion to refer this bill to the <br />Zoning and Annexation Committee and set it for Public Hearing and Second Reading on July 26, <br />2004 and Third Reading on August 9, 2004. Councilmember Kelly seconded the motion which <br />carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />There was no unfinished business to come before the Council at this time. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Councilmember Dieter reported back to the Council regarding Mr. Albert Murphy's request for <br />street signage along Arrowhead Drive Councilmember Dieter further stated that the City of <br />South Bend Sign Department has put up two slow down children at play signs in the 2000 block <br />of Arrowhead Drive. Councilmember Dieter stated that he has spoken with Marcia Qualls of the <br />City's Engineering Department regarding street lights and this will need further investigation. <br />Councilmember Dieter noted that Mr. Murphy along with some neighbors are working with AEP <br />in getting a light put up on their own. <br />PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR <br />COMMENTS BY MR. JOHN SWANSON CONCERNING CITY WIDE YOUTH CENTER <br />Mr. John Swanson, 1321 West Washington Street, South Bend, Indiana, informed the Council <br />that he is still in favor of a City Wide Youth Center that is open twenty -four (24) hours. <br />COMMENTS BY MR. ALBERT MURPHY CONCERNING SIGNS AND LIGHTING <br />Mr. Albert Murphy, 2801 Arrowhead Drive, South Bend, Indiana, thanked Councilmember <br />Dieter for his help in putting up the children at play signs in his neighborhood. Mr. Murphy <br />stated that the street lighting is still a problem. He would like to see more lights put up in his <br />neighborhood. Mr. Murphy also indicated that he would like to see more activities for children <br />during the summer months. <br />17 <br />
