REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 26, 2012 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> BEND MUNICIPAL CODE ADDRESSING <br /> AMBULANCE/MEDICAL USER FEES AND <br /> DEDICATED FUND <br /> <br />Councilmember Scott made a motion to consider the substitute version of this bill as on file with <br />the Office of the City Clerk. Councilmember Dr. Fred Ferlic seconded the motion which carried <br />by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dr. Fred Ferlic, Chairperson, Health and Public Safety, reported that his <br />committee held a joint Public Hearing with the Personnel & Finance Committee this afternoon <br />and voted to send it to the full Council with a favorable recommendation. <br /> <br />Chief Stephen Cox, South Bend Fire Department, 1222 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana, <br />made the presentation for this bill. <br /> <br />Chief Cox advised that the South Bend Fire Department is required by Code each year to prepare <br />st <br />and file a report on or before September 1 of each year which summarizes all of the <br />th <br />ambulance/medical services runs as of August 15 of that year. The report identifies the number <br />and type of each run, the amount billed; the amount collected; the amount in collections; the <br />number of lawsuits filed; and recommendations with regard to fee amounts. Chief Cox advised <br />that he filed the South Bend Fire Departments’ Annual Report on August 27, 2012 pursuant to <br />the Municipal Code provisions. He stated that this bill would request fee adjustments that are in <br />the best interests of the South Bend Fire Department and the City of South Bend. The requested <br />fee adjustments will help maintain the best possible ambulance and medical service runs possible <br />in the City. <br /> <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br /> <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to <br />this bill, Councilmember Dieter made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />concerning this bill as substituted. Councilmember Schey seconded the motion which carried by <br />a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> <br />RISE AND REPORT <br />Councilmember Oliver Davis made a motion to rise and report to full Council.
