SECTION 15250 <br />MECHANICAL INSULATION <br />PART 1: GENERAL <br />1.1 GENERAL <br />A. Provide insulation for all piping, as specified or indicated. <br />B. Taper back and neatly finish insulation adjacent to flanges, unions, valves, manholes, <br />handholds, nameplates, and at other locations where edge of insulation is outstanding. <br />On cold water systems, insulate all fittings and appurtenances. <br />C. All fiberglass insulation is to have a minimum density of three pounds (3#) per cubic <br />foot, unless otherwise noted. <br />D. All piping insulation shall have a minimum of 4.0 to 4.6 thermal resistance. <br />E. Insulating materials shall have a flame spread rating less than 25 and smoke developed <br />and fuel contributed rating of less than 50. Test shall be in accordance with ASTM E84. <br />F. Runouts shall be identified as the section of piping not exceeding twelve feet (12') in <br />length from the mains or laterals to individual coils or plumbing fixtures. <br />PART 2: PRODUCTS <br />2.1 PIPING <br />A. Insulations shall be as manufactured by Knauf, Owens-Corning, Manville, Certain-Teed, <br />or approved equal. <br />1. At Contractor's option, pre-molded PVC fitting covers as manufactured by <br />Zeston, Inc., or equal, may be used in lieu of finished covering specified. <br />B. Valves, Fittings and Flanges on Domestic Cold Water Piping: <br />1. Equal to adjacent piping, full thickness of insulation. <br />2. Removable insulation covers for valves <br />C. Domestic Cold Water: <br />1. One and one half inch (1.5") thick fiberglass or closed-cell foam with all service <br />jacket. <br />2.2 SOFTENER TANKS <br />A. One inch (1") thick foamed plastic with all seams sealed with adhesive recommended by <br />manufacturer. <br />15250 - 1
