r � <br /> Committee Report <br /> Community and Economic Development <br /> June 12, 1995 <br /> Page 2 <br /> The first Bill is for Baker Rubber Inc. and the second request is for STI-K <br /> Polymers America Inc. Mr. mike Beitzinger reviewed the report for both companies date <br /> May 23, 1995 (copy attached) which concluded that the petitions both meet the five year <br /> Personal Property Tax Abatement criteria of Section 2-84.2 of the South Bend Municipal <br /> Code . <br /> Mr. Mark Barker then provided hand-outs to the Committee (copy attached). He <br /> noted that there would be 26 new jobs created. In response to a question raised by Council <br /> Member Luecke he noted that there would be no environmental concerns and in response to <br /> a question raised by Council Member Ladewski that there would be no storage concerns. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the companies are fine corporate citizens and <br /> spoke in favor of the Bill. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Puzzello made a motion, seconded by <br /> Council Member Zakrzewski that Bill Nos. 95-45 and 95-46 be recommended favorably to <br /> Council.The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 95-47 which is a six year Real Property Tax <br /> Abatement request for the property located at the Southeast corner of Garst Street and <br /> Lafayette Blvd. <br /> Mr. Mike Beitzinger reviewed the report date May 26,1995 from the Community <br /> and Economic Development Department(copy attached)which concluded that the petitioner <br /> meets the six year Real Property Tax Abatement criteria of Section 2-82.1 of the South <br /> Bend Municipal Code. <br /> Mr. Dennis Reiner provided further information with regard to Midwest Machine <br /> Products Inc. He noted that currently that they have 7 full-time employes and that this <br /> would raise to 10 employees if the tax abatement is granted. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion, seconded by <br /> Council Member Puzzello that Bill No. 95-47 be recommended favorably to Council. The <br /> motion passed. <br /> The Council Attorney then noted that state law has amended the tax abatement <br /> procedures regarding companies determined to be operating as Organic Resources. She <br /> noted that a resolution would be coming to the Common Council very shortly to address <br /> one local company's concerns in this area.
