REGULAR MEETING April 25, 2022 Councilmember Lee requests to see if anyone in the virtual public wishing to speak in opposition to Bill No. 090922. Public hearing is now close. Councilmembers, I will now entertain a motion regarding Bill No. 090922. Vice President Niezgodski motion to send Bill No. 090922 to the full Council for passage. Seconded. Councilmember Lee Bill No. 09-22 will be sent to the full council with a favorable recommendation. 12-22 PUBLIC HEARING ON AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, TO VACATE THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED PROPERTY NORTH ALLEY BETWEEN NORTH MEADE ST AND NORTH KALEY ST FROM WEST KELLER ST TO MARQUETTE BLVD. Committee Chair Niezgodski states this bill came out of the Public Works and Property Committee with a favorable recommendation to the Committee of the Whole. Councilmember Lee requests that the petitioner state their name and address and share key points before the council. Councilmember Lee requests roll call, Clerk Jones Clerk Jones responds with nine (9) ayes. 18-22 PUBLIC HEARING ON AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE SOUTH BEND ESTABLISHING JUNETEENTH AS A DESIGNATED CITY HOLDIDAY AND AMENDING CHAPTER 2 ARTICLE 8 SECTION 2 -120 OF THE SOUTH BEND MUNCIPAL CODE TO APPROPRIATELY INCREASE THE TOTAL NUMBER OF DESIGNATED HOLIDAYS FOR OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY. This ordinance is requesting that we amend the South Bend Municipal Code to officially recognize Juneteenth as an official city holiday. This day is rich in history, and last year was declared a federal holiday by President Biden. We are hoping to follow in his footsteps and follow that precedent.
